Are you currently leasing a MINI E? Let’s hear about it. Tell us what you like. What you don’t like. How it drives. How it handles. What kind of looks do you get. We want to hear it all. Sound off in the comment section below. Or if you’d like to create a more thorough review feel free to contact us via the contact link above.

How do you get off calling them owners? None of those that have the MINI E are owners. BMW owns the MINIE’s. Just like the suckers that had the GM EV-1 they had a LEASE and DID NOT OWN THE CAR!

OK, If Leasee’s are not owners, then people that finance the car are not owners either (the bank owns it until you make the last payment).
I don’t own my house, but I still call it my house since I’m the one that lives there and makes the payments. I think we can all agree that you’re being a little over the top with this whole situation. Get over it.

Ease off on the coffee Dean.

haha yeah no kidding. I ‘own’ a Mini that the bank still owns.

Overall it’s ok I guess but my battery started leaking and burned a hole through my garage floor. MINI is replacing the battery but will not cover the repairs to my garage.

I only got the MINI E yesterday So Im still getting use to it. The coolest thing has to be Instant Torque, its sort of like having an engine that is always behaving like its at Red Line, for peak output, and is still absolutely quite, It also has quite a bit of torque steer when you gun the accelerator at any speed.
Most of the breaking is done just by letting up on the accelerator slowly, it feels like you’ve down shifted and are getting engine breaking.

Try calling it “renting” the car unless there’s an option to buy it at the end. $900+ monthly to lease an ughly/stripped down sub par Mini. All in the name of “caring”. FOOLS!

I know this is a tangent to the intended topic, however I’m with Dean that there is a significant difference legally, financially and mentally when it comes to owning vs leasing anything. Perhaps I wouldn’t have been so aggressive in my post as others, however. (FYI: I am a CPA and professional auditor)

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…

Come on, people. Enough with the negativity, what happened to good motoring mojo??

I think the MINI E is a wonderful pilot program for BMW/MINI, and regardless of who “owns” the car, I’d love to hear more about it. It might not be your favorite member of the family, but it’s still family, right? Show some love, people.

To the MINI E drivers: please excuse the bad mojo, and welcome to the family. I hope you still wave at the rest of us out there!!

Maybe someone should start moderating these comments…

… and a little spelling/grammar/usage checking wouldn’t hurt 😉
Poor Robert’s MINI E is already breaking and he only got it yesterday – must be poor build quality.
Step on the brakes Robert.

Honestly this is not the forum to discuss ownership vs leasing. Let the MINI E owners voice experiences and feel free to discuss the topic at hand. Talk to Gabe, Don or someone else at MF and request a post be started about the topic you feel so passionate about.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Robert. Having a Tesla Roadster at home makes me very interested in how the E owners like their cars…

EVs are back….better than ever….and here to stay

Don’t worry Ron. Big brother already does that as my post didn’t appear because I’m not with the program.

Nice to see you’re for free speech as long as you agree with it.

Jesus guys, enough grandstanding already. It’s a pilot program that they’re paying their own good money to be a part of. I want to hear what the new MINI-E owners have to say too!

Yes, let’s hear it from the MINI e owners. That’s what we want to read about thank you.
D

Gabe, honestly whats up with the haters?
It’s just a freakin sentence poeple. He said MINI E owners, so what? You all know what he means; what’s the big deal? How does pointing out that is a lease change the outcome of the topic?

Geezzzzzz

Agreed with Brian, Shamus and others above… must everything be made “political” (if not pedantic) all the time? Some of us are keen to read how this particular pilot implementation of an EV works, and doesn’t work. As car / driving enthusiasts, we CAN be keen on more than one brand, more than one model, and even more than one powertrain technology.

What is up… is that the vast majority of the MINI community did not buy a MINI to be economical or because we hate SUV’s or because of ANY other reason than a MINI is most damn fun to drive and own….period! We dont care to have all this of this pc pr bs shoveled at us……

The MINI backlash starts now!

BTW….some of us do actually OWN the stuff we have and there is a difference!

dr, of course there is a difference between leasing and owning. But pointing it out to the person asking the question doesn’t change the fact that everybody here knows that MINI Es cant be bought. It was just a simple oversight not worth pointing out with such intensity.

How many times have you said to someone “Hey you bought a new car!”… and now think about how many times the reply was,… “Actually you asked the wrong question because I lease my vehicle and technically I do not own it so therefore legally and mentally its not the same.”

You get the idea.

Really?! How does a blog posting asking for MINI E feedback – from people having taken delivery and driving the vehicle first hand, no less – constitute “shoveling” values? And what exactly makes it “PC/PR” (besides the glaring anti-environment, anti-technology paranoia of some posters)? No need for an “all or nothing”, “with us or against us” view is there?

This initial MINI E may not be a sporting car to drive the way my beloved R53 factory JCW or modded miata is, for example, but that doesn’t make it antithetical and worthy of a “backlash”. Practical engineering design needs to start somewhere. There is no reason electric vehicles cannot be made sporting to drive… it will happen (if it hasn’t already at Tesla), at least for performance-tuned variants.

Looking beyond the narrow definition of “fun to drive” as speed-based measures of performance, consider that a lot of MINI drivers chose their vehicles for reasons besides carving corners or tearing up an onramp. Should we start a backlash against all non-JCW variants? All non-S variants? Where do we draw the line? Look, I prioritize speed, sound, and driving feel (particularly with RWD) – probably even more than most posters – yet when I take the wheel of my buddy’s 3-cylinder diesel Smart car, I genuinely have FUN driving it, even if I’m not setting record G-forces or stoplight drag times. Heresy isn’t it! ;)

Or, we could just call them MINI E drivers….

Dr. It’s great to see someone on this site who isn’t imasculated by the green saber. Backlash away!

I long for the days before the trolls found this site. Take your political agendas elsewhere.

I have to agree with Goat, Since when was MINI ever considered a ‘performance’ car. In their truest form, MINIs were always zippy economy cars, ever since the 60’s. The enthusiast community that rallied around this spunky little machine have always embraced a certain off-beat mentality. Call it PC, eco-friendly, sizeist, counter-culture, call it whatever you want, those are your own personal issues. I’m happy to call myself a MINI owner and enthusiast. My reasons for ownership are my own, and don’t give a damn about your labels!

Now would someone please start talking about the MINI-E?

Huh!!! I came to motoringfile.com and I saw this topic and that there are 22 responses. I only count ONE response from a person who actually has a MINI-E in their garage! What is WRONG with you people?! Come on! Really? An argument about leasing/owning? Have you nothing better to do than this? -Facepalm-

This constant bickering about trivia is disgusting! You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Let’s turn this around and hear from more MINI E owners eh fellas?

Of course, if you have a MINI E and would rather contact MotoringFile offline, please do so here.

Let’s play try-to-keep-db-from-taking-drastic-measures on this post. That would be totally awesome!

Thanks DB.

Hear, hear!

Looks like the MINI E drivers have been rightfully bothered away from posting in this thread.

We should just start a new one and close this; since its pretty useless for its intended purpose of hearing their experiences.

Since I seem to be the to post on this thread, I’d like to suggest turning this around. Do members of the MINI community have questions for MINI E pioneers (MINI’s term for us)? What would you like to know?

I will try to use a spiel cheekier as we know the computer is always RIGHT. :)

Take two, as the previous post was missing a few words, and I couldn’t go back and edit it.

Since I seem to be the only MINI E owner/leaser to post on this thread, I’d like to suggest turning this around. Do members of the MINI community have questions for MINI E pioneers? (MINI’s term for us) What would you like to know?
