World Debut: The MINI Speedster Concept

MotoringFile Sections: Official News, R59 (Roadster) Sep 15th, 2009 79 Comments

coupe

This morning MINI takes the wraps off of the widely anticipated Speedster concept. As we broke last year, the Speedster (and the coupe) concepts are nothing more than very lightly disguised production vehicles. Production will start in 2011 and will be the last MINI products based on the R56 platform before it gets replaced in 2013. The production lifecycle of both the coupé and speedster should reach into 2015. Look for more photos and video (along with much more insight into the cars) in the coming days.

Official Release: MINI evokes new fascination and a wonderful new experience time and again. For each model in the range offers unique opportunities to enjoy supreme driving pleasure and unmistakable style.

Now the MINI Roadster Concept once again sets a new trend for individual mobility borne out by the brand. A purist vehicle concept, elegant design and fascinating, sporting driving characteristics all come together in this unique car to offer the vision of an open two-seater catering for the demands of a modern and self-confident target group.

The new concept car carries over the features typical of MINI to a new segment, the MINI designers thus bringing out yet another attractive facet in the character of the brand. So the world debut of the MINI Roadster Concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show will add a new perspective to the future of the MINI brand, presenting yet another great path of development.

MF Poll: Would You Consider the MINI Crossover?

MotoringFile Sections: MF Poll, R60 (Countryman) Sep 14th, 2009 37 Comments

One of the most contentious subjects on MotoringFile over the past couple of years has been the development of the MINI crossover. The Crossover (codenamed the R60) is on track for production early next year once Magna completes the production change-over from the current X3.

While this is a slight delay over the original timeline, it does not constitute a change in strategy for the car. In fact MINI and BMW execs continue to have very high-hopes for the forthcoming Countryman (as it is rumored to be named) as both a sales generator and a way to expand the brand to new markets. Sales are also expected to come from current MINI owners who are either looking to upsize or replace their second car. And that’s where this week’s MF Poll comes in.

Would you consider buying a MINI Crossover?
