JCW GP Rips it Up at the ‘Ring

Every so often we like to just sit back and watch cars go around the Nurburgring. And what better car than the (still) ultimate MINI, the GP. The new JCW may technically be faster than the GP around the ‘Ring but in our hearts, the GP is still plenty special. Enjoy.

Nice run. Too bad the camera tried tokeep the in car exposed and some of hte outside shots were blown, but still a nice run.

Wow, you have to have some serious trust and situational awareness to roll around the ring on a motorcycle. It would not have taken much of a slip up on either the car driver’s part or the motorcyclist’s to have a couple guys get mowed down.

That’s a nice video and I know that GP, it’s almost stock so nice driving. If you like gen 1 Mini video’s around the Ring, here’s one of mine in HD on a soaking wet Ring and on semis R888. http://www.r53.nl/player_hd.php?id=24

  • JonPD

Great video, although not the fastest Mini still hands down the best sound for the driver of any stock Mini. The factory JCW is a quick car but lacks character from the soundtrack under the bonnet. Nice to see a GP getting flogged around the track.

“almost stock”?? Isn’t that a roll cage I see at the left A-pillar and in the rear view mirror? I bet there are couple of other “almost stock” mods to this car ;-D

  • http://sunshineminis.org MaxMCS

Yeah, definitely a modified GP. That exhaust sound was way too loud (and wonderful) to be the stock JCW exhaust, probably straight pipes or emptied cans. Plus, I second the roll cage, it’s bright red and can be seen to the left of the steering wheel.

This guy’s an excellent driver. That thing was moving at top speed for a while there! People need to make way for performance drivers, though- you’re on a RACETRACK, people. I know it’s open to the public, but it’s still a track. The rules of passing and other etiquette apply!

    Sweet vid.

  • MINIme

I bet the bikers were pissed when the MINI went by them and then braked hard into the turns… Pretty cool video. How fast do you estimate this car was traveling?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1145665586 DUDE!

Very Kool. I thought I saw a roll cage.

  • http://www.r53.nl Berthil

Here’s the mod list of that GP (I translated):

Mini JCW GP Nr. 1903, Motor: JCW GP Stock!, Kompressor: JCW GP Stock!, Pulley: JCW GP Stock!, Software: JCW GP Stock!, Dif: JCW GP Stock!, Exhaust: JCW GP Stock!, CAI: K&N, Brakes front: Brembo GP Kit with Hawk HT 10, Brakes back: Stock with Ferodo DS 2500, Suspension: KW Clubsport, Aluminium-, Racesprings 100 kg, Strut above: OMP, Strut under: OMP, Rims: 7×17 ET38; Team Dynamics PRO RACE 1.2, Tires: 205/40/17; Kumho V70, Suspension rubbers: Powerflex, Roll cage: Wiechers, Seats: OMP RS, Seatbelts: Schroth Profi III asm®

So engine is almost stock but suspension and seats are modified. Rollcage means adding weight for safety, doesn’t bring performance (I’ve got one too). He has had a ‘year card’ for the Ring meaning he could drive as many laps as he liked for a year costing about 1000 Euros. Doing MANY laps is still the way to go to get to learn the track.

Istill have issues over the styling but have always wanted to drive a GP. The ultimate R53.

  • RJ

Jeeez…..I almost felt like I was in the GP as the guy’s driving!!! Holy sheeeet! I gotta respect this guy’s handling of the course and his MINI! He did come awful close to creaming those bikes.

  • MCSDCWGP06

great videos, the best track we have here in the states is the green mountain state of Vermont, now thats what I’m talking about!

  • goat

Wow he is fully “on” through that run! Good lines and good assertiveness with the passes. Ok perhaps a bit hasty to apex the cars and bikes a couple of spots but it looks like he has run the track many many times. Lucky dog! Makes me want to get out there and drive my JCW!

  • Jon

Why did he edit out the last minute, where the long straightaway is? I wanted to see what that car topped out at!

  • KPH

Enjoy I did. It’s “just” another in-car video, but not really. Great stuff on head phones too.

  • Jason

If I didn’t read above that it was a man with a year card I would have bet money that it was a “Ring Taxi” driver in someone’s GP. Amazing run on a very sparcely populated ring. My dream day for sure.

  • lavardera

    hmmm, 17″ wheels.

  • metalman

Great run! I didn’t see a helmet on the driver or passenger! Hmmmmm
