Guess I better make to Detroit to see this upclose… I see the possibilities since this still seems to be the kind of car Americans want (i.e. bigger =safer). I do like the retro Moke grill- interesting touch.

Dr Odnxs, Nathaniel the bulge might be there because I know for a fact the Countryman will have a 2.0 liter turbodiesel variant, this was confirmed to me by a bmw engineer in london. Gasoline variants mite not have the bulge. James, it will have a b pillar no countryman doors, and the rear will be a liftgate not barn doors. Side mirrors like the hatch on the doors not the a pillar. center stack will also use new materials this will be for all lci models in 2010-2011, wasnt allowed to touch the new center console but it looked more premium than before, i.e. soft touch, matt finish

Gabe, You noticed that the press release spells out that the Crossover will be sold everywhere but the U.S. in 2010?

Why is Mini putting these "power bulges" on what used to be a wonderfully curved hood? Someone at the design studio needs his (or her) perscriptions changed.

As one of the very few people who has seen the upcoming R60 Countryman, the front end of these renderings are pretty much identical to the R60. The only difference is the R60 will have a traditional chrome slatted grill.

no No NO! this makes me very sad....I have been holding out for an r60 to become a two MINI family when we replace the wife's car....If the R60 has those lights then we will not be getting one....Its just to fugly

on a related rant....I simply can not stand the common styling trends in the market of large oversized lights that wrap around the corners...ugh..I have never seen cars as ugly as the ones on sale today

I like many aspects of the design, but at MINI’s prices the car would be purchased primarily as a luxury toy fashion statement.

Ok, if my use of google in converting all the different measurements hasn’t failed me… This concept has an overall length equal to the clubman… Clubamn 155.8 inches = 12.9 feet Beachcomber 4 meters = 13.1 feet If you can wrap your head around what this looks like in the pictures and superimpose it onto a clubman…

I just piddled with excitement…

I currently have an R56 and a soft-top Jeep. The Beachcomber looks like a cross between the two. In some ways it seems tempting, but only if my other vehicle was the Coupe.

Either way, this might be my next purchase after I finish paying for my R53 works :)

I think you can see where the Countryman doors will end - they've put some kind of trim piece in to go all around the door openings and finish off the exposed jamb panels. The rear door extends all the way to the black wheel well trim, and that fascia with the rectangular dimples will be gone, and the doors will extend down to black trim here as well. I'm guessing the mirrors are mounted to the door as on the other models.

Even in the sketches you can see the seams of the doors.
