For a limited time, you can get in on the fun of the MINI vs Porsche challenge with some new magnetic badges and decals from motoringbadges.com. Show off your support and your sense of humor with four limited offerings.
For those who are new to the MotoringBadge scene, the badges are magnetic and designed to be used with MINI’s official grille badge holder or several 3rd party holders. They are made from high-quality materials featuring a glossy finish with a UV clear coat that resists fading in the sun. You can get a single badge for $7.50 and a set of six for only $37. And for those who have no more room on their grilles we also offer high-quality decals of each badge priced at $4.50.
BMW Design Chief Adrian van Hooydonk chatted with the UK automotive magazine Autocar recently about the MINI brand and recent MINI design strategy. The strategy was created as a series of guidelines for the future of the brand and its products. The key take aways? MINI will stay premium, handle well, use clever engineering and stay design focused. Here’s an excerpt:
The original Mini’s handling prowess on the road and in competition will influence Mini’s future direction. Its fashion heritage will play its part too, van Hooydonk said.
“That combination of clever engineering, serious handling and fashion was very strong, and will live through in future Minis,” he said.
MINI USA is continuing to hype the attempted match-up with Porsche on June 21st at Road Atlanta. The latest effort is the idea of creating a limited edition set to commemorate the race. We’re told that MINI has yet to decide if they will have the collectors set and bringing them to market would likely depend on the race actually happening. But suffice to say the handful of pre-production sets already produced will be highly sought after if no more are made.
What do you think? Regardless of whether or not the race is run, would you be interested the set you see above?
Justin Bieber tickets? How could they possibly say no!
Update: It appears MINI isn’t giving up and has launched an all-out assault on Porsche’s North American HQ in Atlanta. Click here for more photos. (courtesy of snufflesquare via Jalopnik).

This week we did get one update that everyone on the New York leg should know about. The MINICross, originally scheduled to happen at the launch city of New York, has been moved to DC on August 7th at FedEx Field (lot a).
It’s less than 2 months away! Get registered and remember to keep an eye on MF and WRR for updates as they happen. We will be covering all of the routes this year too and look forward to meeting as many of you as we can.
Last week we dropped the bomb that there would be little change to the JCW in the way of exterior visual distinction other than an optional red roof. Today we get confirmation (photos courtesy of our friends at Bigblogg) of that with the first leaked photos of the new JCW range with one small exception; it would seem that the 2011 JCW will be picking up the black version of its current 17″ wheel as seen on the limited edition WC50. Otherwise the JCW will remain unchanged and as (almost) subtle as ever. Inside however things are a little more interesting with grey faced gauged and unique black leather lounge seating with red piping as an option. continued →
