VW’s new New Beetle

MotoringFile Sections: MINI Competitors Jul 19th, 2011 29 Comments

Teased during the Super Bowl, the New Beetle is now even newer, making its first big evolutionary leap since the car debuted in 1997. The new New Beetle is squashed and stretched and feigning aggression from most angles — reflecting VW’s desire to re-masculate the Beetle franchise. Because honestly, not enough of the car market is aimed at young men. Am I right, fellas? Now we here at MF haven’t gotten any wheel time in the new New Beetle just yet, but here are two first impressions worth checking out:

MotoringFile Sections: MINI Yours, R55 (Clubman), R56 (Hatch), R57 (Conv.) Jul 18th, 2011 46 Comments

MINI Yours is introducing two exclusive colors for 2012 that will be available on all MINIs coming out of the Oxford Plant. MINI Yours (MIIN’s high-end line of factory options and dealer accessories) will be available a la carte with one caveat, that you order the MINI Yours side Scuttle. By ordering that one part you unlock the entire MINI Yours catalogue of exclusive options. And of course three of those options are two different exterior paints. See the rundown after the break. continued →

The Silk Way Rally is also in the Dakar series and there’s one stage remaining in the nearly 2,500 mile route. Fingers crossed, everybody! More info on the rally available at the Silk Way Rally website.

Crash Forces MINI WRC Team to Withdraw From Estonia Rally

MotoringFile Sections: Countryman WRC Jul 15th, 2011 5 Comments

Autosport is reporting that earlier this week, MINI WRC driver Kris Meeke had a rather serious impact with a rock while putting the Countryman WRC race car through its testing regime. The MINI team managed to get the car put back together and testing before the day was out, but apparently the damage was more extensive than they’d first thought and a start for this weekend’s race in Estonia was out. continued →

The model year 2012 is here and MINI USA has a number of changes and refinements that are well worth noting for anyone looking at buying a MINI. Ok it’s actually more exciting than that. Let’s take a look at the details including options, packages, MINI Yours and JCW (after the break). continued →
