MotoringFile Sections: Countryman WRC, Motorsports, Official News Nov 8th, 2011 2 Comments

Official Release: The MINI WRC Team is now heading home for Wales Rally GB and the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship. The UK’s forest stages are famous worldwide and an event including them has been part of the WRC since its inception in 1973. Not only is the team based in the UK, but this is also a home event for Kris Meeke (GB) and Paul Nagle (IR) in their MINI John Cooper Works WRC. Meanwhile for their team-mates, Dani Sordo (ES) and Carlos del Barrio (ES), Wales has proved a happy hunting ground in the past. continued →

How to Spot and Buy a (R56) JCW

MotoringFile Sections: JCW, R55 (Clubman), R56 (Hatch), R57 (Conv.) Nov 5th, 2011 38 Comments

When MINI released the R56 JCW we all groaned at the lack of visual differentiation. And while MINI has eventually fixed that issue with the 2012 models, there are still three years of JCW out there that, for all intents and purposes, don’t look any different than a Cooper S. This is particularly an issue when trying to find one used. I recently had a senior editor of a very large automotive website ask me for help in the JCW quest and I was blown away at how hard the process had become. I told him not to give up because the JCW was definitely the one you’ll want. But it takes patience and just the right amount of arcane MINI knowledge to find a real JCW.

As enthusiasts know, it’s not always easy to look for used cars on the web due to misleading descriptions. Often I leave it up to the photos to tell me the real story about the car. When it comes to the JCW, even that can be tricky. So what’s the secret? continued →

Special Edition (Chili Red) MINI WRC Countryman Spotted in the UK

MotoringFile Sections: R60 (Countryman) Nov 4th, 2011 14 Comments

It’s not the much rumors JCW Countryman or even the recently uncovered Prodrive version. But it is an homage to the current WRC Countryman rally car complete with the full set of questionable go-fast stickers and finished in Chili Red – normally unavailable on the Countryman. Inside it is laden with MINI’s typical carbon fiber goodies including steering wheel, shift knob etc. Beyond that the only thing we can tell is exclusive to this car are the white JCW 19″ wheels that normally are only available in black or sliver. continued →

For 2011 MINI USA has introduced a handful of options for the MINI Countryman. While most readers attention has been focused on the rear bench seating (a no cost option that deletes the rear rail) we’re much more excited about a couple other additions. continued →
