Need to kill a few hours. Your’re in luck as MINI USA has updated their online configurator with the new Roadster models. Also included are several new options for March 2012 product – most notably Recaro seats. Ladies and gentlemen, start your clicking.

Since the Recaros are available in the hardtop as well, what do the back seats look like?

close to 40K for an S with some extras? … holy shnikies.

No, if you take it easy on the specs it’s around 34K. I am thinking JCW package, USB/ipod/ auto a/c and a few bits. I would take the combo cloth/leather seats over leather on a droptop.

No thanks. I think my money is better spent on a left over 2011 BMW 3-Series or wait for the new F30 replacement. MINIs are pricing themselves out of the market.

MINI is pricing themselves out of the market. That money would due better spent on a 1 or 3 series BMW, in my honest opinion.

Yes, I agree, Mini is pricing themselves out on this one. 28k for a no options S? For that $$$ many other cars come into play.

WAIT! what is this semi-auto soft-top?! I thought it was all manual?

Yeah, wish there were more details on that. Our Roadster is on order with the manual top, and I don’t know if the semi-automatic has any negatives (beyond the obvious of $750 and more stuff to break).

They talked about that system on WRR. I can’t remember which episode. Sounds like it helps spring the top forward a bit to help you grab it from behind. I wouldn’t opt for it.

As I recall the raising/lowering is fully auto, you just have to turn a lever to unlock it from the windshield before lowering (or lock it to windshield after raising).

Colors are a bit lame though. Grey, silver, white… no yellow, a brighter blue and no copper metallic?

Gabe, how many years do you see them selling these cars? I know that you said it would not be 7 like the hatch, 3-4?

Wow! That is one expensive two seater that is not a Porsche! I’d go used Bpxster/Cayman rather than drop $40K on this but that is me if was looking for a two-seater.

For those complaining about the price, remember it is $600 less than the existing Convertible S.

don’t let logic get into the way of a good rant!

But at least the Convertible has back seats! (little kid use)

But it has compromised headroom because of mechanicals needed for the “sunroof.”

And look at the sales numbers on the current convertible…

I’m tall (6’7″). This is one of the only roadsters that I will fit in, period. Although I love them, Miatas and Boxsters just don’t work. MINI has effectively created a roadster for tall guys. Talk about your niche products. If I could have a third car, this would be it.

Looking forward to seeing it in person. I’m tall (6’2″) and the Coupe felt too claustrophobic and had a blind spot issue for me.

Mini pulled the roadster configurator on Saturday 7 January and is still missing. I suspect they will reinstate it after the media event tomorrow 9 January at 2:30 the NAIAS 2010 Detroit Autoshow to officially unveil the car.

Friday I did configure the car, downloaded the exterior and interior full res images, created a My Mini tear sheet brochure. The website did not have the payment estimator working however.

The Mini dealers did receive some production numbers on Friday so the roadsters can be configured and reserved.

Also betting the “launch” vehicle at NAIAS will be in midnight black with red trims and Recaros.

It’s working for me and they didn’t take it down. Probably should clear your cache.

The site went went back online last night. Even the mobile site was down on saturday. Happy motoring!

Thanks for posting the brochure.

Still, a JCW version with some options was about $40k for me… That’s a lot of cost for the car for sure. If I were to buy, I’d mod an S, but then, I like modding. I wonder how it will do

Funny thing. My dealer just received an unsold JCW Coupe and has Coupe S which I am going to test drive both to really feel the difference. The drive will very closely approximate the driving experience of the roadster. Also, some dealers may have the roadster on display this weekend. Stay tuned.

Got my order sealed with my dealer yesterday. Can’t believe the wait is almost over.
