MINI Previews the Paceman

MINI has shared some rather glossy photos of a lightly-camoflauged MINI Paceman on their Facebook page. While we’re still not getting a clean look at the back end, we are able to see the shape and size of the coupe doors and an even better sense of the car’s overall proportions. It’s definitely still got the Countryman face, but there’s no mistaking the back half of the car as something new. Full gallery after the break.

I am liking this more and more. The exterior is, IMO, esthetically a considerable improvement over its sibling. If the interior has some improvements in the same direction and the driving experience is on par or preferably better than its counterpart, I believe I will buy one (assuming the price isn’t crazy high).

I’m thinkin the only interior “improvement” will be a need for decapetation to sit in the back seat. The Audi A5/S5 suffers from the same problem….

Can you delete the full gallery link as all 4 images are clickable and there is no real reason to click through to the gallery?

The gallery link is part of the WordPress system, so we’re stuck with it for now.

I want to love the idea of the Paceman, but it is not going to be the AWD R56 coupe that I want it to be….

  • MaxMCS

I’m so unbelievably excited about this car! Once the aftermarket starts really making parts for the newer engines, I absolutely believe the Paceman COULD be the perfect AWD coupe. It’s got the utility and stability of the Countryman, the relative size and performance of the Clubman, and the interior quality/reliability of the Hatch. To me, it’s like the ideal blend of all the best attributes of the MINI range. Bravo!!

I’m withholding judgement until the swirly bits are off. The Countryman to me isn’t very appealing, in part because of the big honkin’ trim. It sort of reminds me of the ongoing trend towards outsized watch faces. And here, the sloped roof just seems a bit, well, odd. That and I need all the headroom I can get. Though it likely won’t be as claustrophobia-inducing as the Coupe…

I drove a Countryman S the other day for grins….Hate to say it…didn’t like it. I hope this is a marked change, because I’m looking for an AWD MINI….although, like a previous poster said, I don’t think it can be that R56 Cooper S AWD I want…

Looks like a “MINI” Range Rover Evoque and I’m not keen on either design.

  • Randy Clark

Not feeling the Dodge Magnum-esque roofline.

  • Aurel

the black trim on the side not continuing straight between the wheels is not so nice and makes the door look huge. i do like where they went with the rear of the car though … seems like it’s going to look ace.

    • The Dude

I actually like that detail, plain straight black plastic would looker cheaper in my opinion.

      • jbkONE

I feel the opposite. It looks like they didn’t want to spend the money on that extra 3 inches of sheet metal. Not really a way around making the entire door skin metal, but if we can shave a few inches off the panel behind it we’ll save $3 per car!!

        • BimmerFile_Michael

It is purely a design exercise, the way the car is stamped it would not yield any difference in material use.

    • Aurel

It just reminds me of the mess that was the ill conceived R56 initial Aero kit … anyone remember that? ;)
