The MINI convertible to discontinued. That’s a phrase we’ve reported several times over the past few years as rumors of its demise have picked-up steam. However earlier this year we also heard from several sources that MINI has indeed green-lit the next generation convertible for 2023. What’s the truth? Automotive News thinks they know:
According to the industry publication, MINI plans to cease production of the model when it’s current cycle ends in February 2024. While rumors have been floated in the past, this latest news comes from supply chain sources who typically get early indications of model changes for planning purposes.
Naturally MINI wouldn’t comment on the rumor saying only, “the convertible remains an appealing model in Mini’s lineup.”
Sales of the F57 convertible have dropped considerably over the past few years with only 4,031 convertibles sold in the U.S., down nearly 25 percent from 2018. That makes it the smallest volume model in the US line-up.
While the convertible might not be part of the brand’s future, crossovers are.
