World Premier: The MINI John Cooper Works Concept

MotoringFile Sections: Auto Shows, F56 Hatch, JCW, NAIAS Dec 17th, 2013 84 Comments

jcw This morning MINI took the wraps off of their latest thinly veiled, production-oriented concept. The MINI John Cooper Works Concept previews two key things. First, it gives us a look at the JCW exterior package, complete with specific aero-kit and wheels. Then second and more importantly, the concept signals MINI’s intent to bring a new level of visual differentiation to the JCW model when it goes on sale in then spring of 2015. Gone is the subtlety of previous JCWs and in its place stands a more BMW M-like approach to both the exterior and interior design. To our eyes, the combination of little touches and overtly aggressive styling does wonders for the F56 and gives the car a fantastic look. We’ll have much more soon, including hands-on time with the concept at NAIAS early next month. Until then, read on for the official MINI press release.

MINI’s LA Debut in Photos & Video

MotoringFile Sections: F56 Hatch, Los Angeles Nov 20th, 2013 53 Comments

MINI threw a massive party last night at the Kim Sing Theatre in downtown LA to usher in a new era. The F56 was present in both Blazing Red Cooper and Volcanic Orange Cooper S forms. Celebrities and MINI designers mingled while listening to Passion Pit and eating Korean Tacos via a Kogi food truck. In a word it was incredible.

The bigger question – is the F56 starting to look better the more you see it in the flesh? So far the answer is a resounding yes.

Check out the full gallery and videos of the introduction and MINI and BMW designers discussing the car after the break.

What to Expect from MINI at the Frankfurt Motor Show

MotoringFile Sections: Frankfurt, Official News Sep 2nd, 2013 11 Comments

MINI Cooper S

Traditionally the major fall European motor show (which alternates between Paris and Frankfurt annually) sees at least one major debut from MINI. Many had hoped it would be the public debut of the F56, the next generation MINI that has been so highly anticipated. However that will not be the case as it’s saving the production debut spotlight for the BMWi brand and the i3 and i8. Instead MINI will make do with the following accessories.

Or so it seems. Despite the following press release being devoid of a mention, we believe MINI will be showing off a concept based on the MINI Vision rendering we saw last month and one that foreshadows the F56. continued →
