Roberto Cavalli adds his artistic signature to the MINI Paceman. MINI has been a partner of the AIDS charity event since 2001.
For the 13th time in succession, MINI is donating one of its models to the Vienna Life Ball for a good cause. Once again the MINI will be given a makeover by an internationally renowned designer before being auctioned at the ball, with proceeds going to projects dedicated to the battle against and prevention of HIV and AIDS. This year it is the MINI Paceman, the youngest and seventh model in the MINI family, that will bear the creative stamp of fashion designer Roberto Cavalli. It sees him joining the ranks of world-famous fashion labels such as DSQUARED², Diesel and Missoni, who have in the past transformed a range of MINI models into sensational one-offs. So far the Life Ball MINI auctions have raised total proceeds in excess of half a million Euros.

While we’re used to seeing MINIs compete in the World Rally Championship at this point, the WRC isn’t the only venue where MINIs compete against the clock. From privateer teams running Targa events around the world to this race, the Allgäu-Orient Rally in Oberstaufen, Germany that starts at the end of this week. A couple of key things set the Allgäu-Orient Rally apart. First, it’s one-way. There’s no return route or looped course. Secondly and most interestingly, the race cars are auctioned off for charity at the end of the race. Pretty cool, eh? Get the official details from the MINI press release (and a gallery of race livery photos) after the jump.

On a snowy ramp in Tignes, France, aptly-described daredevil Guerlain Chicherit successfully backflipped a MINI Countryman racing car. MINI teased this stunt back in January, but neglected to show us how the landing went in that port-side attempt. Call me skeptical, but I imagine that if the landing had gone as planned, we’d have seen it. Forgetting the earlier attempts, now MINI is showing us the whole stunt gone well. Video after the jump.

BMW and MINI are heavily involved with the 2012 London Olympics. They’re officially handling much of the transportation logistics for the games, and they even participated in the opening ceremonies. The BMW Group fleet involved in the games has been mostly electric, with MINI Es coming out of retirement, as well as BMW ActiveE vehicles taking people to and fro. Turns out, however, there’s one more flavor of electric MINI getting involved in the games, and it’s the most mini MINI yet: a 1/4 scale radio controlled MINI hatch.

[Official Release] Editor of Italian VOGUE presents her one-off MINI at the 20th Life Ball in Vienna in support of AIDS LIFE.
A special car to befit a special occasion: Franca Sozzani, chief editor of Italian VOGUE, has designed and presented her very own MINI model exclusively to mark the 20th anniversary of the charity event. The model in question is a MINI Roadster, the first open-top two-seater in the brand’s history. The one-off creation, which went under the auctioneer’s hammer at the AIDS Solidarity Gala and raised a donation total of 54,000 euros for HIV projects, left the audience of around 43,000 in no doubt: this is set to be a sporty, feminine summer. Franca Sozzani decorated the roof of the 184 hp MINI Roadster – which has a top speed of 227 km/h (141 mph) – in a stylishly intricate floral design which, in combination with very “of the moment” Deepest Purple matt paintwork and gold hallmark MINI rally stripes, produced an impressively complete work of art. continued →
