Sure the price of gas is going through the roof with no relief in site. But, if you are really a MINI person, trust me when I say this is an event you are not going to want to miss!
If MTTS this year is half as cool as MINI United was last year, it’s going to be awesome! Check out the MTTS site to get the lowdown on all of the events that will be going on. Don’t forget to subscribe via RSS or email to get those updates as they happen! Of course, the games and activities are cool to be sure, but the real reason you’re going is for the MINIs and the people. If you have never experienced a large scale MINI event, you will be in for a treat!
Gina Koutros from MINIUSA took 10 with us this week to update us on all of the details that were released about MTTS.
One thing you do want to do if you are planning on going is to register! It’s not necessary, but if you don’t register before the event, you won’t get the ever coveted goody bag. We are sure it’s going to be chock full of some great swag that you aren’t going to want to be without. Besides, the registration fees goes to a local charity for each location. Win win in our book!
Be sure to head over to the MTTS site and subscribe via email or RSS to get updates, and don’t forget to stay tuned to MF, WRR and WR.tv for all of the updates and complete coverage of all 4 events as they happen!
All the MTTS related details we’ve all been waiting for have arrived. If you want to know all the where and when related questions be sure to check out minitakesthestates.com. But starting today you can not only get full details on each MTTS site but you can register as well. For those new to the MINI world, read this. For the rest of you, let’s first talk about event details.
Miami: June 13-15
Fun, sun and lots of gorgeous hard bodies. We mean all those MINIs of course. The MTTS events kick-off with a weekend in Miami and the Homestead Racetrack with hot laps, music and motoring tales aplenty from MINI racing legend Rauno “The Flying Finn” Aaltonen.
The last leg of The Flying Finn’s rally from Miami and the second big weekend of MTTS fun comes to this city well known for throwing some historic parties on the waterfront. Our choice spot at the University of Massachusetts, Boston campus along the water should work out perfectly.
MINI Takes the States heads to the heartland to keep the summer of fun rolling along. With a rally kick-off at the Lincoln Park Zoo and a weekend full of events at the famous Road America race track, there should be no shortage of good times and adrenaline.
MINI Owners already feel a little bit like celebrities with all the admiring stares they tend to attract. Just imagine the looks we’ll get when a thousand of us storm the City of Angels. Plus, we’re taking over the Rose Bowl for the MTTS festival, so you’ll get to reenact all your favorite football dreams with your MINI cheering you on.
Gina Koutros from MINIUSA took time away from getting ready for the New York Auto Show to give us some more detail on MINI Takes the States 2008!
We find out the reasoning behind selection Miami, Boston, Chicago and LA for this years event. Plus a sneak peak into the reasoning behind separate weekends. For those of you that missed it, there was a poll conducted late last year as to what type of event owners would like to see, and the four regional events won hands down!
While it’s old news to MotoringFile readers (since we exclusively scooped the correct dates weeks ago), MINI USA has officially announced the dates and locations of MTTS 2008. In the coming months you’ll read, hear and see much more about MTTS here on MotoringFile and on Whiteroofradio. But until then, here’s the official release with the locations and dates that we reported on previously.
Two years ago, MINI Takes the States rambled coast-to-coast with thousands of MINI Owners joining up for a legendary motoring extravaganza. This year, though, everyone hoped even more folks could get in on the fun. So the MINI owner community voted for us to visit four U.S. cities for four separate blowout weekends throughout the
summer.
Last week we told you about the four locations of MINI Takes the States. This week we have the exact dates. Actually truth be told, we posted some preliminary dates last Thursday that turned out to be only half correct. However we now have what we feel is concrete information to share with you. Here’s the full rundown on location and dates:
Miami: 6.13 to 6.15
Boston: 6.20 to 6.22
Chicago: 7.25 to 7.27
L.A.: 8.01 to 8.03
We’ll have much more on MTTS ‘08 in the coming weeks.
(Updated Feb. 29 - our original information on the dates of each event was incorrect. Look for the final information next Monday on MotoringFile): From the moment we scooped MINI USA’s plans for MTTS, we’ve gotten email after email asking, where and when. We’re happy to say we can finally report what we know. Based on sources, MTTS 2008 will kick off in Miami, FL move to Boston, MA, Chicago IL and finally Los Angeles CA.
MF Exclusive: The results are in from MINI USA’s recent survey about MTTS 2008. First for those who may have missed it our coverage a few months back, MINI USA asked owners what they would like to see for MTTS 2008. The choices were as follows:
A road trip like MTTS 2006 across the country with events along the way.
One large MINI event centrally located.
Several medium sized events across the country.
We can now report that far-and-away preference from owners who took the survey is for four regional meets across the US. Tentatively MINI USA’s plan is to spread out these meets over a four month period next summer.
MINI Takes the States 2008 is in the early planning stages now and MINI is looking for your input!
The first time we pulled this thing off in 2006, MINI Owners had so much fun that we swore we would do it again. So now we’re starting to gear up for an even bigger and better MINI Takes the States in 2008.
But here’s the best part: this time around we want YOU to decide where we’re going. This event is all about bringing as many of our incredible MINI Owners together as possible. So we figured it would only make sense if it was MINI Owners like you who actually decided what the event was going to be. Now is your chance to weigh in and help make MINI Takes the States 2008 as Motortastic as possible
Get on over to the Owners Lounge now and cast your vote! And after you’re done head back to MF to let us hear your thoughts - especially if you have suggestions that aren’t listed on the ballot.
As they say in Chicago, vote early and vote often.
As heard on Whiteroofradio recently, MINI USA is in the early planning stages of a large event similar to 2006’s MINI Takes the States. We had heard noise last year (as early as during MTTS) that the power that be at MINI USA were pro the idea. However we had not heard a definitive statement that “something” was going to happen until now.
Now the only questions left are what, when and where.
The fifth and final episode of the CarTV.com Fireball Tim MTTS Coverage. This one starts off with a firebreathing dragon, moves on to Indy, with a quick cameo by Mr. Gabe Bridger, for laps on the track and finishes with some video footage from the Italian Job Rollercoaster.
I’ve linked up the other 4 episodes below in case you have missed any of them. Definitely worth reliving, especially if you attended any of the legs of MTTS!
Fireball Tim and the gang (plus a few MINIUSA execs) hanging out in Arkansas, Memphis, Metropolis and St. Louis. Some great audio of the M600, good music, a smokey burn-out and a few GP’s. Did I mention Andrew Cutler doing the Fireball Salute? Good times, good times.
Be sure to check the link below for the extensive MTTS coverage we provided in case you missed any.
What you see below is an early version of the the official MINI USA MTTS recap. Filmed at produced for BSSP and MINI USA by Rehab, this video does a great job of capturing the MTTS spirit that made the coast to coast trip so special. If you’re a MINI fan at all you need to find ten minutes and watch this video. It’s that good.
