MINI & Agent Provocateur Raise $73,000 for AIDS Research

MINI Press Release. A MINI Clubman designed inside and out as a pleasure palace by British avant-garde lingerie maker Agent Provocateur for the annual Life Ball charity in Vienna, Austria, has been sold on eBay for $73,388 (e45,000). This is the eighth year MINI has supported the event with a vehicle which was subsequently sold on the on-line auction company’s site. In total the cars have raised in excess of $495,726.94c (e304,002) to go towards HIV/AIDS research.

Worldwide MINI Sales up 14.2% for May

MINI Press Release: From its already high level a year ago, the MINI brand grew 14.2% in May to reach 22,682 units (prev.yr.: 19,863). The MINI Clubman also kept up its highly successful trend. With sales of 4,476 vehicles in the month under review it accounted for around one fifth of the brand’s total sales. In the first five months of this year 20.3% more MINI were delivered to customers (102,361 / prev.yr.: 85,107).

MINI USA Sales up 53% for May

MINI USA Press Release: MINI USA reported an all-time record in May. The brand sold 6,312 cars, a 52.8 percent increase compared to 4,130 cars sold in the same period a year ago. MINI USA also reported sales of 21,189 cars for the first five months of 2008, an increase of 36 percent over the 15,585 vehicles sold in the same period a year ago.

Both the MINI Cooper and Cooper S, as well as the new MINI Clubman were very well received during the month of May.

With six awards for five engines gained at this year’s “International Engine of the Year Awards”, BMW has successfully defended its position as the world’s leading manufacturer of efficient high-performance power units. For the second time in succession, the 3-litre straight six engine with Twin Turbo and High Precision Injection has won the overall ranking in this most significant international engine competition. The 225 kW/306 bhp engine employed in the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, as well as in the new BMW X6, also has repeated last year’s victory in the 2.5 to 3-litre engine category.

BMW & PSA Making Engines Together (Again)

As we indicated on BimmerFile a few days ago (we sat on it for a while as per a request from a source) BMW would be utilizing engines similar to the four cylinder turbo specifically utilized in the John Cooper Works MINI Cooper S. Today it was all made official:

(Official Press Release) Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. will use the four-cylinder engines it has jointly developed with French carmaker PSA in BMW brand cars, chief executive Norbert Reithofer said in a pre-release of his interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He said the future generation of the BMW 1 Series will be fitted with these four-cylinder engines. The report said BMW had previously intended to use these engines only in the MINI brand cars. Reithofer also disclosed the new generation of the BMW 7-Series, which will be launched this year, will be fitted with a new hybrid engine.

Official Press Release: The MINI brand also recorded good growth with the first-quarter sales volume up by 23.6% to 58,054 units (first quarter 2007: 46,978 units). The launching of the new MINI Clubman was a great success: almost 16,000 units have been handed over to customers since its market introduction in November 2007. The MINI brand continues to generate a very high-value product mix. In total, 14.1% of customers opted for the MINI One, 59.6% purchased the MINI Cooper and 26.3% chose the MINI Cooper S.

Designer MINI Debuts at Lifeball

MINI and Life Ball have been synonymous for eight consecutive years now, and this years unique MINI will be designed by cult lingerie label Agent Provocateur, founded by Serena Rees and her husband, Vivianne Westwood’s son, Joseph Corre.

The Life Ball MINI 2008 will be auctioned through eBay from 5 to 15 June 2008 in further aid of Life Ball, Europe’s largest AIDS charity event to be helt on 17 May 2008.

MINI Worldwide Sales Up 24% For March

Official MINI Press Release: Sales of the MINI brand continued to develop very satisfactorily, with 26,693 MINI sold in March. This represents a 24.4% rise on the same month last year (21,454 units). Never since the market launch of this, the world’s most successful premium small car, in summer 2001 have so many MINI been delivered in one month as in the month of March 2008. For the year as a whole, the company is aiming to pass the 240,000 mark in terms of the number of MINI automobiles sold.

Official MINI USA Press Release: MINI continues its success story in the U.S. with the launch of its third variant - the all new MINI Clubman - which hit showrooms just last month.

MINI USA reported a 17.3 percent increase in March sales, to 4,289 cars compared to 3,655 cars sold in the same period a year ago. MINI USA also reported sales of 10,164 for the first quarter of 2008, an increase of 25.9 percent over the 8,073 sold in the same period a year ago.
