When MINI debuted the latest GP, a big part of the story was how much faster the new R56-based JCW GP is than the R53 JCW GP. Yet the GP isn’t the only MINI to have been ’round the ‘Ring. For example, here’s some R56 action. continued →
Today we’ve got an unlikely pairing from AutoCar.co.uk between the new MINI Paceman JCW and the BMW 135i. While the Paceman JCW is the more sporting than its Cooper and Cooper S siblings, it’s still a no-brainer that the M135i has it beat in the performance category. So why compare the two? Simple. Because they cost about the same.
The video is a pretty scathing indictment of the Paceman’s price point. Something is out of whack. Either the Paceman really is priced well out of reality, or the BMW is the bargain of a generation. Check out the video after the jump and tell us what you think.
EVO Magazine – perhaps our favorite car mag – not only got its hands on a JCW GP but managed to get it to a track and pit it against the best hot hatches from around the world. The results speak volumes of what we’ve been saying about the GP. After our reviews (track drive, video review, road review) we’ve been blown away by the performance and the feel of the thing. Tiff Needell and Richard Meaden seem to agree. In fact even the raw numbers give the GP the edge over the much more powerful 350 HP Focus RS or the AWD 256 HP Audi S1 hitting the highest top-speed and having the quickest time around the track.
On a snowy ramp in Tignes, France, aptly-described daredevil Guerlain Chicherit successfully backflipped a MINI Countryman racing car. MINI teased this stunt back in January, but neglected to show us how the landing went in that port-side attempt. Call me skeptical, but I imagine that if the landing had gone as planned, we’d have seen it. Forgetting the earlier attempts, now MINI is showing us the whole stunt gone well. Video after the jump.
MINI at NAIAS was all about one thing – the Paceman. And specifically the fastest of them all the JCW Paceman. Sound interesting? Click through to see a full video recap of MINI’s display at Detroit and of the press conference.
It seems like yesterday that Travis Pastrana was lighting the world on fire doing the first back flip on a motocross motorcycle. He later did a double back flip. Apparently MINI, with the help of french crazy person stunt driver Guerlain Chicherit are attempting the world’s first unassisted back flip in a car. That car, by the way, is what appears to be a custom built MINI Countryman made just for the task. Video after the jump.
Think your MINI sounds mean? Check out this race-setup classic Mini, “Old Red” taking its first steps forward in nearly 30 years. This car belongs to a chap called Gary Snyder and it looks like he’s prepping it for competition in the VSCR series. This story came to us from a very cool car blog, The Chicane. Check them out.
