MINI USA Recalls some 2014 Cooper Hardtops Over Spare Wheel Nut

MotoringFile Sections: MF Feature, Recalls/Campaigns, Safety Nov 29th, 2014 1 Comment

MINI USA has had a minimal number of recalls since their entry into the US market (especially when compared to the other manufacturers recently) but we do have one new recall to bring to our reader’s attention.  MINI USA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (US) has announced a recall of 5,805 2014 MINI Cooper (non-S) Hardtop models manufactured between January 7, 2014, to July 21, 2014 as the spare wheel may have been attached with a nut that is not self-locking. R50, R52 & R53 Steering Pump Warranty Extended in Canada

MotoringFile Sections: Recalls/Campaigns Feb 2nd, 2012 20 Comments

Transport Canada has issued the need for an extended warranty for all 2002-2005 MINI steering pumps. It’s a common problem that has plagued R50, R52 and R53 MINIs for years. Here’s the official description:

On certain vehicles, the electro-hydraulic power steering pump could fail temporarily or permanently due to problems with the electronics that control the function of the pump, a failure of the pump cooling fan, or a loss of power to the pump. A vehicle experiencing a loss of steering power assist would revert to a manual steering mode which would require greater driver effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. continued →
