We love MINI and we are pretty fond of the Goodwood as well. But over the years we haven’t pulled any punches in second guessing some design and specification choices are various MINI models – especially JCW. And now it’s your turn. We want to hear how you’d change MINI highest priced model – the Goodwood. continued →
The following is an editorial that wasn’t influenced by advertising on this site but more inspired by what it and what it means for the future.
As those of you in the US have likely noticed, MotoringFile’s advertising partner MINI of Chicago is now offering the $52,000 MINI Goodwood for an astonishing price of $39,995. That’s over $12k off the list price and surely not what MINI had in mind when they created such an exclusive car. For the right buyer it represents an incredible value. But for any future MINI high-end special editions, it could be a little troubling.
The Goodwood has no exclusive exterior styling or even wheels. Designers at Rolls Royce didn’t want to create a car that was an extrovert. As is their philosophy, they simply wanted to created understated elegance that led into a rich and sumptuous driver environment. For a MINI owners used to seeing Union Jacks decals and white wheels, it’s a foreign idea. But for the Roll Royce owner (or anyone with a similar mind-set) the exterior is for the world, the interior is for them. continued →
As a name, MINI Inspired by Goodwood is a mouthful. MINI couldn’t use the term Rolls Royce or even reference the storied brand. So instead they simply referenced the place all Rolls are made – Goodwood England. And it’s a shame because the Goodwood is nothing less than jaw-dropping once you open the door and your senses fully experience the car. The only problem? They’re relatively rare with many dealers not even getting more than one (if any). However MotoringFile sponsors MINI of Chicago not only has one or two but eight of the ultimate MINIs. Currently the dealer has delivered four and have another four in the showroom (all priced only $1,000 over invoice to celebrate the store’s one year anniversary). So with all the opulence just a few miles away from MF HQ, we thought it was worth a trip down the street to go check them out.
While I was out last week driving a bunch of fast BMWs around California, I had a chance to see the MINI Goodwood as it made its US debut at Pebble Beach. The MINI Goodwood (yes even we refuse to use the full name – MINI Inpsired by Goodwood) doesn’t have a defining exterior characteristic like the JCW brand or other limited edition MINIs. In fact from a distance, it just looks like a very well specced dark colored MINI Cooper. And that’s completely by design. continued →
Pricing is in on the most expensive MINI ever. The MINI Inspired by Goodwood (aka the MINI Goodwood) will retail for $52,000. MINI will be producing 1000 worldwide but only 140 will be coming to the US. Options are limited because, as you’d expect, a $52,000 MINI has most options already. However you can still spec your exclusive Rolls-Royce color Diamond Black or the MINI color Reef Blue metallic.
Official Release: MINI fans in the US will have their first chance to see two exciting and very different, new MINI vehicles at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California this week. Both vehicles can be found at the MINI Display, located at the intersection of Pedestrian Walkway and 17-Mile Drive.
The MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD is an exclusive special edition of the MINI Hardtop which has been produced in close collaboration with the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars design team, and it will be displayed alongside the new two-seater MINI Coupe which will also be shown publicly in the USA for the first time.
MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD adds another layer to the MINI brand experience, bringing a generous measure of automotive luxury and exclusivity in its highest form. It will be priced at $52,000 (including $700 D&H), when advanced orders begin later this month. continued →
MINI will be giving the MINI Coupe and The MINI INSPIRED BY GOODWOOD it’s official US debut at the Peter Hay Display on 17-Mile Drive.
