“Once again, you asked, and we're delivering. The new auxiliary audio input accessory kit is now available at your dealer. Be the first on your block. Questions? Call us at (866) ASK MINI.”

The part number is 82 11 0 153 367, the MSRP is $39.95, and my dealer said that's a valid number. The MINI parts system didn't say how many are available in the country at this moment, but they do exist… at last!

Okay I'll answer my own question: Yes they're for '03 cars or newer.

Here's some info from Brian Flick from Classic MINI:

“Just released! This kit is for 2003 and newer models only! Not compatible with models older then 2003 due to changes in radio software. The is kit will enable the user to plug in their MP3 PLAYER, portable CD player, cassette player, or any other audio device which has an audio output: such as a headphone jack!

The kit consists of a cable, mounting plate, mounting hardware, and installation instructions. The input cable plugs into the back of the in-dash radio control unit and has a standard 3.5mm femal connector on the opposite end. A mouting plate attaches the audio connector firmly in the vehicle's glove box.

Customers are required to supply a suitable cable that connects his/her audio device to the standard 3.5mm adio connector, as connections may vary from one device to another.

The kit part number 82-11-0-153-367 retails for $39.95. WE are selling them for a discount of 20% off. Our price is $31.96. Shipping is additional but should be around an average of $5.00(within the continental USA)

And for those in the Chicago area Knauz MINI has 15 on order as we speak. If you're closer to Patrick or Bill Jacobs you may want to give them a call before heading down with your cash in hand.

From what is stated above, this cable is a simple job, that like the first ones made by the chaps over at MINI2, wont work while charging your iPod with the cig lighter adapter :(

Adding a ground loop isolator let the makeshift cables play AND charge at the same time, but from what it looks like, MINI's cable doesnt 🙁 Hope Im wrong

John, are you asking if there is room behind the empty toggle to fit the port, so it is in the dash instead of the glovebox? I haven't pulled mine out, but based on pictures I have seen, I doubt there is room.

well i have a call into Bill Jacobs about this as we speak. I would love to get this installed sometime this week. Going on a roadtrip this weekend and have missed using my iPod in the Mini…

Also, while I guess the glove compartment is where it's being installed, it would make a whole lot of sense to either drop the cable straight down from the radio or put the connector in a blank toggle switch. Oh well, I just am looking forward to having it! :)

I have a homemade cable, I love it, mine has a plug on the end not a socket, but I dropped it down and it comes out through the little plate below the switches.. There is a little notch so the cable fits through and you can close it.. (if you are confused as to what I am talking about, there is a little plate/door on the underside of the center consol above the power outlet, it unclips) if you were to get a cable mini jack on both ends, you could plug it into the socket of the mini approved cable, and run it out the same place leaving the connection in that space behind the radio and switches, it is perfect because the ipod can sit in the cup holder and the power source is right there as well. email me if you have questions… there is a photo here..

Self installation also voids the warranty on the factory stereo they're claiming.

How about the rear fog lights? Free retrofit installation for all '02 and '03 MINIs? Standard equipment on the '04's?

C'mmon MINI, you can do it!!

Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit the port into the spare toggle switch area?

No – traditionally the only way to get it in there is if you buy the euro version with the rear foglights swtch.
