This news via from MINI PR:
'MINI has expanded its range of roof decals with the addition of five new roof designs. ‘Camouflage’, ‘zip’, ‘stripes’, ‘tartan’ and ‘tiger’ take the total number of MINI roof decals available to 25.
All five new roof decals will be displayed for the first time at Motor Show Live at the Birmingham NEC from 25th May – 6th June.'
Trevor Houghton-Berry, General Manager UK said, “Since MINI was launched in 2001, we have seen MINI owners embrace the opportunity to personalise their cars. There are almost 50,000 ways of specifying a MINI and the introduction of five new roof decals has further expanded that choice”.
Three MINI facts:
- The most popular roof decal in the UK and the USA is the Union Jack.
- Due to the enormous choice of options and accessories available for MINI only two in every 100,000 MINIs produced at Plant Oxford are likely to be exactly the same. Statistically this means that only two of the 100,000 MINIs registered in the UK will be identical.
- Over 99 per cent of MINI owners have added additional specification to their cars ranging from the fitting of John Cooper Works kits to the addition of bonnet stripes.
There's currently no word on US availability but it's worth noting that there are already several designs that are out in the UK that MINIUSA doesn't offer. With that in mind it may be sometime until the US sees these flags.

Great designs however it be be nicer to bring your own design to the dealer when buying a (new) Mini or just to order the decal of your own design for your Mini.

My favorite roof decal design is the one with the opening zipper. It looks terrific on a black roof for sure.

The MINI roof decals are cheaper than the aftermarket products I have seen. $300 for a vinyl aftermarket decal is a lot of moola IMO….

But if you have to have your own design, that extra chunk of cash may be well worth it to you.

I got the MINI OEM Union Jack flag in my MCS. It looks great and nothing shouts more like “Heritage” than an UJ roof sticker.

Do they(MINIUSA dealerships) install factory decals on roofs with a moonroof and still be able to see out of it?

I think most of the OEM decals they sell are intended for solid roofs only, but I could be wrong. I don't have a sunroof in my MCS.

There is a company called Cooperflags.com that sells the perforated vinyl roof graphics for MINIs equipped with factory sunroofs. They also will custom create a roof flag based on your own design, for a price of course.

I still want a “THIS SIDE UP” roof decal.

The striped one that looks like the awnings of my great grandfathers house in 1935 is realy ugly! and the Camo is weird and has me worried but the others are fun… the tartan would be fun to order as a custom design in your Family design from cooperflags.com if you have Scottish ancestors… I wonder how long before the some of the Chavs in the UK have one in the Burbery Tartan? :)

…thank you,Frank for pointing me in the right direction.

Dillon – according to this they should be MINI should be starting to sell their own very soon: http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/02/28/new2004mini_accessories.

I went to my dealer today and they were installing a checkered flag on their test drive MCS with a sunroof. It's perforated to see out of, but does dim the roof a bit.

I think LAME is a word that comes to my mind! But if ya dig 'em that's all that matters…R

I personally think that all of the 5 new decals posted above look bad. The zipper one may be an exception. I like the idea of a “this side up' decal… that would be great. Otherwise.. i agree with R

I would like to buy new “zip” roof decal. Where i can do it? Thanks.

Recently, I’ve purchased a 2006 mini cooper and I am inquiring of where can I find a roof decal of 1975 Laos flag. I would greatly appreciate a reply from someone with suggestion. I may be reach by my email of buclao_2@yahoo.com Thanks!
Tawn, you’ll probably want to contact a local vinyl shop. Todd Pearson is in Kansas City, MO and does tons of MINIs and would probably design and generate the design for a local shop to apply, if that works better.

HAS ANY ONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ROOF DECALS LIFTING, AND PEELING

The decals on my John Cooper Works Coupe have deteriorated from normal UV [presumably] within the first year, very conspicuously so. I wish the car never had decals. Decals seem like a cheap solution compared to DURABLE paint. And two dealerships fail to return calls/emails concerning this issue. LAME if you ask me.

Yes I’ve had a bad problem with my decal. It has split and discoloured. Got no help from local dealer. It’s a 51 year and gonna cost me to put it right. Not impressed.

Did they even think to match the decals to the car. All of them are hideous. They won’t match any color you paint the car. And they just don’t fit the mini at all.
