As an ode to the winter storm brewing in Chicago tonight here's a short clip taken by Jason Livingood a couple of years ago during a similar storm that hit the east coast. It gives us all pause to remember how fun a little tug of the handbrake can be. (3.6 megs)
Update: Due to the size of the file and everyone trying to download it simultaneously I've created an alternate download here.
BTW this was originally posted two years ago on MotoringFile… bonus points for anyone who can find the original post 🙂

I found it. Too easy.

Uh-em MotoringFile developers are not eligible for bonus points!

I remember this post well. I said to myself, “I'll be doing that as soon as I get my MINI.”

Great stuff.

Nice work Sean. Have you actually gotten some quality e-brake time yet? I was cutting some great corners in the hood this afternoon with a similar method :)

I live 2 minutes away from the mall, and I wake up extra early to catch the empty parking lot. At least once a week gets you enough practice time with the hand brake.

Just gotta cut back a little, my tires are starting to bald.

And the winner of the “Slowest Loading Online Video of the Year” award is….

:)

Gabe,

Yes…as a matter of fact just yesterday morning on my way home. I will probably induldge again this morning as I head home from work.

Data is trickling in. Someone needs to make a BitTorrent file for this. I would but I can't from behind the firewall of work. (Work?? Shouldn't I be out seeking empty parking lots?)

you have no idea how much it pains me to watch the snow fall as it is. i've just dropped off my MCS for repairs (damage courtesy of an inattentive Land Rover driver) and will be without it for approximately 2 weeks.

Well ….It's snowing/ freezing raining all together now in toronto… I'm gonna run out and test the MICH X-ICE snow tire ! problably do a couple of dounuts if possible ! hahaha

That was outstanding. I got to do my first donuts in my MCS yesterday. Albeit not as phenomenal as what is in the video.

She handles extremely well in the snow too, quite happy with the 17″ all-season run-flats.

Thanks for sharing. :o)

Hey was that Ari Vatenen?

+++RB

Good timing :D
We have snow, we never get snow!! Still, cowardly me will likely take the bigger beastie out… just in case.

I remeber that! SOoooo cool! Makes me want to live in a snowy area…

Sweet…I was doing a little of that after work last night, and I'll probably do a little more of it tomorrow night after work…lol

All dressed up with Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S's and no snow to go… when will our snow arrive in DC? DOH! I've just cursed us.!

You don't want snow! I have a convertible, I want sunny warm days!

Smart thing doing this with the plate covered with snow, so Mini can't void your warranty :-)

Wondering if anyone has an opinion of how the Pirelli Euphoria drive flat tires handle the snow?

Heading to Syracuse and want to have the right tires on.

Thanks.
