This comes from an MF reader:
Just thought I’d pass on something of interest to your Canadian readers… MINI Canada is offering a limited edition Works package including the JCW Works Kit:
Here’s what it looks like:
- Standard Mini Cooper S – $30,500 CAD
- JCW Kit Package Cooper S – $37,700 CAD
Kit includes:
- JCW Works tuning kit ($6,800)
- DSC ($690)
- Style 98 – Web-spoke wheels ($?)
- LSD ($650)
- Front and rear fogs ($270)
- JCW Carbon Fibre Mirror Caps ($?)
The prices in brackets are the equivalent stand-alone cost of each item if purchased separately.
On top of that you can still add:
Standard upholstry options (e.g. leather, anthracite trim, etc.) Heated Seats Chrome line interior “Premium Package” Auto Climate Control H/K sound system Hope this is interesting to some Canucks!

It’s strange that MINI Canada is using California license plates on their site.

Sigh…if only the dollar were a bit stronger.

But after taxes and import fees…you’d be right where you would be in the U.S.

David – we are dreaming of warmer weather!

I checked out the site yesterday – it looked to me that your colour choices were limited to Chili Red, Solid Black, or Dark Silver – or was my browser messing up?
Presumably the $7200 package upgrade included installation of the Works tuning kit, but I wonder if the stand-alone JCW tuning kit cost of $6800 includes the labor to install?
If so, this special offering looks like a good buy, even if I don’t care for the DSC and carbon fibre caps.
And those web spoke wheels would go to auction quick – they’re not my cup of tea!

The Canadian MCS JCW Package edition is what the US spec MC40 should have been all along…

Sounds great except for the carbon-fiber mirror caps.

I always thought the JCW package was overpriced until I actually drove one a couple months ago. I was given a MC40 loaner for the day while my S was being serviced. The power difference between my S and the MC40 was very noticeable. More power in all areas of the powerband, no matter what gear I was in. And no stumble/lurching like my Cooper S constantly suffers from. Steering felt better too, not sure why. I would seriously consider the JCW package if/when I get another MINI.

Did your MC40 loaner had the JCW package? The JCW kit was not offered as standard in the MC40, just to clarify.

The stumble problem was effectively corrected in the 2004 model year.

Frank,

I believe it did. I have no other explanation for the very noticeable difference in power, unless the weight difference between my 17″ S-Lites and the MC40’s R90 wheels makes the S into a different car. I just don’t think that could be the case. My Cooper S is the same production year (2004) as the MC40s.

And nope, my 2004 Cooper S stumble problem hasn’t been fixed, even with the latest engine software.

Petsounds,

Do some searching on the NAM forums, I believe that most people who had your problem were able to fix it by “retraining” the computer… I think it involved resetting it, then driving the car all out for a while (very high revs, etc)

Anyway, I recall reading something in there from people in your situation. Worth investigation.

The JCW price does not include installation. It’s only a $770 straight savings and you are limited to the 3 colour choices and those wheels (not a big fan of that style). Not really worth it for me.

i wish my dealership had a jcw equipped loaner,

Hey GrumpyGills,

It actually does include the installation costs, as MINI Canada is marketing this as a “semi-factory installed option”. Reason for the quotes is that it is still done at the dealer by the service department.

They’ve basically removed the “AfterSales” portion of the upgrade and made a virtual “factory-installed” kit.

At least, that’s what I’ve been told by the marketing folks over at BMW Canada. =)

Cheers,
K-M

Can U.S. residents bring their MCS to Canada to have the kit installed, or do you have to be Canadian resident? I live close enough to the border that it would be worth the drive…

Thanks K-M,

Now I feel totally ripped off! I paid that PLUS installation.

I don’t know if the dealers in the US have this, but in Canada our dealers present a legal document that for the purchaser to sign that ‘in the interest of protecting car resale values, and discouraging discounting’ they have first right to purchase your vehicle within the first year if you choose to sell it. My lawyer ordered his with JCW very shortly after me (to get LSD) and he saved $$ because this offer was now available and he felt (rightly) that he shouldn’t be penalized and spend more. the dealer relented.

Anytime GrumpyGills.

The truth is, the only reason why this offer even exists is because JCW sales have dramatically decreased lately in Canada. This is an attempt to boost interest back up (hence the limited time availability).

John, to answer your question. Unfortunately, this pacakge is a “factory ordered” option. Therefore, this offering at this price is only available if you buy the car right off the bat with this stuff on it.

All the best to everyone.
Cheers,
K-M

Hello Everyone,

My fiance and I are seriously considering the Mini with the Works kit (factory ordered). What I wonder is why it only comes in the 3 colors? Anyone know what that’s all about?

Also – does the JCW package come with the sports package? How does it compare the the JCW springs/brakes etc?

Thanks for any help you can give!
