This comes from Car.co.nz:
The Italian fashion company Versace, under supervision of its chief-designer Donatella Versace, has designed a very special MINI in a typical Versace look. It made its debut during the Life Ball fashion show at the weekend, and will be auctioned on eBay in mid June.
Inspired by the MINI’s blend of cheeky good looks and funky street-smart style, Donatella Versace designed a black MINI Cooper Convertible in her own distinctive look.

[ MINI by Versace ]

That car is so ugly, it’s FUGLY.

Sorry, but I’m not impressed. The name Versace is supposed to make me want it more? No way. Why mess with a good thing? The mini needs no flourish-filled paint job. Solid colors, (like my Electri c Blue) work great. Add bonnet stripes if you’re feeling “cheeky”, but that’s about it.

That’s awful, and the people who designed it knew it was awful when they put on the “second skin”. But they had to make a Verscae car somehow.

Ewwww, that’s all I can say

Looks like someone had a few too many, was only able to make it to the outside of the mini and………

aahh.. versace… I used to live down the street from the Miami Beach villa where Gianni Versace was killed..

I’d say the design is a bit done for everyday driving, but it’s perfect for Miami Beach nightlife :0

Well, you probably wouldn’t have to wash it much because who could tell when it had mud splattered on it.

WOW! That’s terrible!

This is a great example of something getting horribly over-designed. In this case, more is WAY less. They could have gone a lot further taking more of an “Eddie Bauer Edition” approach in appointing the interior with more exotic, designer materials and tasteful accents unique to that edition. Then following up with perhaps a hard-to-match, unique exterior color or even tastefully two-tone the paint job. It’s too bad, the opportunity is there to make a real collector’s item with a lot of class.

I have yet to see any of these “designer” variations with any taste. Too bad.

It’s too bad Jackson Pollock or Piet Mondrian are gone, they would have got it right… ;-)

I would like to double the FUGLY comment…

Money does not breed taste.

I’ll see your Jackson Pollock and raise you a Wassily Kandinsky!! Pollock went to school in my hometown. I’d love to see any of the real ‘masters at work’ on a MINI!

That’s the same old Versace design ‘they’ have been using for decades… it’s sorta a logo, but in pattern form.

fashion designers + cars = tacky

Cartier Lincoln Town Car
Nautica Mercury Villager
Levis AMC Gremlin (with denim seats)

I see Alphonse Mucha doing one or Chuck Close or Escher or how about Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen doing a giant MINI or Christo doing bunches of them across the USA!

Well, at least someone will be able to get a Mini for cheap; if they are willing to deal with the paint job…

I’ve seen worse…….the tile Mini’s come to mind.

The BRITO MINI (Another Miami Beach based Painter/Artist) is even worse….

The “South Beach” appraoch does not bode well elsewhere in this country so it seems…

Way too 80’s

LET’S SEE A PETER MAX MINI

I don’t know. I think it’s ok. Not for everyday driving but i’d drive that over a lot of the modded MINI’s i’ve seen around here with vinyls all over them… or boobs.

Personally I think a lot of people would say it’s ugly just becasue it’s made by a fashion company. If this car was designed by someone inside MINI as a special addition MINI, not as many people would say it’s ugly.

I would love to put my GF in that car. Firstly, it will probably eventually have some sort of collector cache, and secondly, yellow is her favorite color. If I could afford it, I wouldn’t hesitate to bid and then put it away for special occasions.

This is a classic Italian design, and putting it on a MINI is cheeky fun. Without being too self depreciating, I can’t really see a straight American guy driving this, but in the age of the metrosexual, who knows. It’s not ugly, it’s just a different aesthetic.

Geez. Another “art car” spotted on Flickr.

Do other marques attract this kind of attention? Blech.

What ever happened to individuality and just plain fun.

Since this is a one-off vehicle, there need only be one person who thinks it expresses their outlook.

Sometimes a stifling iconoclastic orthodoxy creeps into these comments. The very antithesis of the MINI ideal.

OMG! Someone else knows about the ltd ed Gremlin w/ Levi Strauss seats. My sister had one, and everytime I tell people about it they’re surprised to hear it. When I was little I hurled in the back seat sipping a slurpy from 7-11.

This car is FUGLY, first off the fact that they made a convertable mini is terrible, it has gotten to far away from what a mini is. On top of it being a convertable now they put that terrible “graphic’ it looks like something you would see on a horribly done import honda.
PS I love the mud splatter comment

Sad Arthur II ran through a butterfly migration in Nevada on the way home and he ended up looking pretty close to Donatella’s concept. Luckily, it washed off.

One of a kind – like me. That’s why I bought a MINI. It’s fun to be different and I am secure enough to handle it. I’ll take it!!
