This past Thursday we here in the NY/NJ/CT MINI Club lost a very dear member. Ed Smith a.ka. Maxamini passed away suddenly a week before his daughters wedding. Ed was a hilarious man, a practical joker a real character. Almost like someone out of a movie. He was well know on MINI2 and our local club site (nemini.org). He was notorious for running around always putting rubber duckies on peoples antennas and in their cars. He was an organizer for MINIs on Top and great with all the children. The relevant threads with pics of Ed are here:

We miss you Ed. Motor on.

Rest in peace, Ed.

Quack Quack- Ed, you will not be forgotten.

Ed made the concept of age irrelevent. The outpouring of love for him by his family, friends and those he touched throughout the world makes his passing a little more bearable. I understand electric blue is still an option in the hereafter – motor on, Ed!

Your jokes and banter will be sorely missed on MINI2.

God bless.

Ed, you will be missed. RIP

Aww…. He helped me once on MINI2. Sorry to hear this!

R.I.P Maxa. My heart goes out to the family in this time of grief – mini2 has lost a great personality – Todd in Australia

Quack Quack Maxa. Every big puddle I find will be splashed through in your memory.

My condolences.

thanks for supporting ed’s MINI habits. we all benefited from his tremendous participation. he was affectionately called “the ambassador” on NEMINI. i am as proud to call him a friend as you are to call him family. my heart goes out to you all. blessed be.

Had the pleasure of meeting Ed briefly at RDR II. You could see the spark in his eyes from miles away. You can tell from reading the threads on nemini and mini2 how much of a difference he made in people’s lives. We should all be so lucky.

Ed was a great guy, and fortunately, will remain so in peoples memories. G-dspeed, Maxamini

I’ll never forget the random cell phone calls, crazy voice mails, and even crazier plans! What a guy Ed was, I’ll definitly miss him.

Tomorrow, I hot glue my rubber ducky to the dash ;)

Thankyou for submitting this, Anthony. I was hoping Motoring file would reflect this tremendous loss to the MINI community here in the states and abroad.

Ed was a fantastic friend to me. He was the very perpetuation, and reflection, of the good will we see exchanged between MINI family members today.

I will miss him.

Ed was everything the world should be. He knew how to take fun to the next level. I will miss him dearly.

Ed, what a wonderful guy you were; Margaret & I will miss you tremendously.

Ed sent me a Dragon Run tee shirt to my home in Ireland, unprompted – a kind gesture that showed what a kind, good man he was.

Ruthie brought him over a Mizen to Malin tee shirt which he wore with pride.

I was to meet him in DC in September, sadly, that will now never happen.

I never met him, but he was a friend.

RIP , but Motor on in Heaven Ed……….

Goodbye my good friend!

But remember…your job is only half-done: you have changed the lives of so many on this side, now’s the time to shake-up the hereafter!

miss you mate

My prayers and condolences to his family and close friends.

Ed’s amazing wit, charm, and sense of humor will carry him in our hearts forever. He’s a person to emulate daily in actions and words. What a spokesperson for the human race. Motor on my friend. You are sorely missed.
