Another reminder from your friendly MotoringFile moderator. For those using MotoringFile RSS (either via a web-based service like Yahoo or a standalone app) you need to update your feeds. That means you need to copy and paste the new RSS feed url (below) into either your RSS application or your web-based RSS service.
Why are we asking you to do this? Well by having hundreds of readers not use the new RSS feeds, our host is (very politely) letting us know we’re using more than our fair share of their resources. So by switching your feed over to the ones listed below you’ll be helping yourself get the latest MF news while helping the site as well.
So for the thousand or so readers that have yet to do this, please take the time now and move your feeds over. If you have any questions on how to do this, please let us know in the comment section.
- Full MF Posts
- All MF Comments
- Clippings (partial posts for other websites to syndicate MotoringFile news)
And for those wondering what RSS is… read this.
Note: the “MF” in the title doesn’t stand for MotoringFile. 😉
Heh heh. I’ve noticed the dual MF reference a couple of times in the past also! Quite comical – especially given the overall tone of the site! 😛
I’m assuming this is another reminder for the change that was made a month or two ago, and not another change.
Okay, no problem. can anyone recommend a good feed reader? I’ve experimented with a few and haven’t found any good ones.
BTW, how does doing this help the site? I know what it is but fail to see how an RSS would effect bandwidth issues.
Just so i am sure, it’s still cool to visit the site? Or would you prefer that we all switch over to the RSS feeds?
thank you!

Visiting the site is perfectly fine. It’s just people visiting these old WordPress Feed URLs that is the problem. So <b>if</b> you use RSS feeds please make sure you are using the most current ones.
O(=^=)O Capn: It’s not a bandwidth problem. The site is using more than its fair share of processing power on the server. Shared hosting providers don’t like this very much. By getting people to subscribe to the FeedBurner feeds, I think we can reduce the load enough to please the hosting company.
right on..thanks.
O(=^=)O Capn: I prefer [NetNewsWire](<a href="http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/" rel="nofollow ugc">http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/</a>) when I’m at one of my computers and [Rojo](<a href="http://www.rojo.com/" rel="nofollow ugc">http://www.rojo.com/</a>) when I’m not.
Gabe,
Could you make sure the new feed works with <a href="http://www.google.com/ig" rel="nofollow ugc">http://www.google.com/ig</a> “Create a Section”? I’m getting a error with the “new” feed but not with the old one. 😉
Thanks

I just did this on google/ig and it works great. Click add content at the top left, then in the Create a section url box, type in motoringfile, click go and then click the first add button you see.
Works at 360.yahoo.com also, in case anyone was curious.
DB,
I suppose that is fair but I don’t know if I am using the new or old feed for this. I had it working with no problems with the old feed but wanted to make sure I wasn’t using the old feed on Google/ig. It looks like it is using “http://motoringfile.com/feed/” which isn’t what Gabe wanted. Right?
Thanks,
I just checked and Google is using the feedburner feed as they should.
Okay okay, I updated bloglines and myyahoo. Thanks for the reminder.
Cheers.
