With almost 800 people added, the MotoringFile Reader Map has been an incredible success over the past couple of months. But the one thing that has impressed us more than anything has been the reader pictures that have been added. So with that in mind we’re following it up by creating the MotoringFile Flickr group. This will give MotoringFile readers a place to post MINI related photos for others to check out without having to know anything about web hosting or creating websites.
One note however. If you have images from an event like the Detroit Auto Show, you will want to “tag” those images so that they show up as a group. This will work as a sort of categorization of the photos. Meaning that once one person tags their photos NAIAS_2006 (for instance), others can do the same creating a pool of photos about one event.
Have at it:

Ooooo… Nice picture TC of you MINI with the sunset. Why won’t it allow me to save it? I want to use it as wallpaper.
Ack! Another Mini Gallery Site! My brain is overloaded! Must…Resist….Posting….Piccies…..too….many…secrets………….
Whew! Sorry ’bout that. I’d made a decision to limit my galleries and blogs, and since I ain’t the fastest mofo on the Web – I’m an Underwood-and-Speed Graphic kinda guy amongst all you Blue Gene & EOS Uber-Geeks on the Web – I’ve cut down on posting in general, just to have time for wrenching. I’ll think about it, tho, it seems like great idea. Thanks for the opportunity, Gabe, so we’ll see wot happens here in Vanwall Land. Oops, that’s my other other non-MINI blog – ahem, here in, Brooksie-land.

Well the idea here is to give MF readers a way to simply post their own pics and still associate it with the site. I don’t see this as being as popular as the Frappr map but just another way to let readers show their cars off a bit 🙂
Good ideas sell themselves – be prepared, Gabe, your site is one of the best and most popular, so I anticipate LOTS of participation. 🙂

FANtastic! Thanks for setting this up. Maybe in the future there’ll be MotoringFile pic assingments??
This is a great idea, but….
….isn’t searching sites like this for posted e-mail addresses one of the ways SPAMers find valid e-mail addresses?
And then you know what kind of e-mails you are flooded with!!!
<blockquote>….isn’t searching sites like this for posted e-mail addresses one of the ways SPAMers find valid e-mail addresses?</blockquote>
That’s a good thing to be concerned about… however as far as I know your email is never exposed on the web in any way so it would be just about impossible for a spammer to get a hold of it via Flickr or MotoringFile for that matter.
Proud to be pic #69
Yes Gabe, I know you don’t post address here (and it’s good to require us posters to provide their un-published address for your private file), but I was actually talking about the posting e-mail addresses with location maps and pictures on Flicker.
NJ Ron, this is a battle that can’t be won through obscurity. I have e-mail addresses that have never been made public but still receive spam. My recommendation is to get yourself a good spam filter.
We agree.
I too have my ‘public’ email and ‘private’ email. And both do get spam. The public is certainly worse even with my SPAM software.
My point was that putting your email address on something as public as Flickr can be a source of spam back to you.
I have no trouble puting my email address in Gabe’s unpublished file. If he needs to contact me for my posting then that’s quite all right.
But, I feel more secure knowing that it’s only in Gabe’s files and not published in MF.
Please Gabe, don’t give into someone wanted to ‘buy/rent’ your email list. I’m sure that it’s a very good list of MINI customers.
I don’t buy anything from SPAMers.

Actually the lists of emails aren’t even kept.
I understand what you’re saying NJ Ron. I’m just saying that I think it’s one of those things not worth worrying about. Life’s too short. I’ve had my main address out in public on the web for years and have never found the amount of spam getting through to my inbox (which is almost zero) to even be an annoyance.
BTTT
So, is it possible to save these?
To save the pictures in the pool?
