We had heard last fall that there was a possibility of John Cooper Garages opening up to the US market with the new North American MINI racing series on tap. We can now confirm that John Cooper Motorsports is indeed offering a full range of products (sans engine kits) outside the UK. For those that aren’t up on what the rest of the world was missing, John Cooper Motorsports has been the exclusive outfitter of the John Cooper Challenge since 2001. That means that they specialize in hardcore track products that are just about impossible to find anywhere else like MINI designed brake ducts and custom window netting to name a few.
Now it’s important to keep in mind that none of these parts are covered under a MINI warranty and many are meant exclusively for track use. Nonetheless, it’s definitely worth checking out:

OH MANN!! Only if I had the money!!
I’m drooling, I’m drooling. Now if I could only get the budget for that stuff past my wife…
Beken,
Get your wife hooked on this stuff, and the rest is easy. Enroll her in the Phil Wicks driving academy.
If this’d help me on my milk runs I’d be all over it!!
Having admired these product from afar it’s very nice that to see that the enthusiast market is deemed robust enough over here to warrant such a move. For the U.S. MINI scene (especially the competitive scene), this is a very good sign indeed.

Any idea if the front brake ducts will fit the GP to make them functional?
Very cool!!
Great new’s!
Any idea if this will include the much-wanted Recaro’s?
The recaro’s MINI offers outside the US aren’t a JCW part. And they may be available from recaro suppliers in the US. However the issue would be the lack of seat mounted airbag sensor (they actually do have an airbag). Without it the new 2005/2006 airbag sensor system wouldn’t work and you’d have a nice big bright light on your dash board all the time.
The real JCW seats are Sparcos I believe.
Finally. I’ve been bitching at them, JCW, for 2 years.
But alas LTZMTOR died yesterday in Palm Springs, Ca area so JCW will have to wait. It has only 25,000 miles on it.

Would they work on cars built prior to 07/2004?

Theoretically they should. But I would double check that with a Recaro distributor. You may also be able to get them from a Canadian MINI dealer.
THE FRESH AIR BRAKE DUCTS THAT ARE SHOWN IN THE PICTURE. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PART # OR KNOW WHERE I CAN GET THEM FROM?
THANKS -RON
