Last Friday we posted 92% of the list, now we’re ready to share with you what we know to be all 12 color options for the R56. The one surprise is that there are only six new colors for 2007 rather than the seven promised. Obviously that’s a bit of a dissapointment but in general it looks like there will be at least few welcome additions to the line-up.
Non-Metallics:
– Oxygen blue (MC only)
– Mellow Yellow (MC & MCS)
– Chili Red (MC & MCS / Unchanged)
– Pepper White (MC & MCS / Unchanged)
Metallics:
– Nightfire Red (MC only)
– Laser Blue (MCS only)
– Sparkling Silver (MC & MCS)
– Lightning Blue (MC & MCS)
– British Racing Green (MC & MCS / Unchanged)
– Pure Silver (MC & MCS / Unchanged)
– Dark Silver (MCS only / Unchanged)
– Astro Black (MC & MCS / Unchanged)
It’s worth noting that we’re not sure if everything listed here will be indentical in all markets around the world.
i knew it would be some kind of black…now it remains astro black 🙁
I´m missing a dark-blue, or is “lightning-blue” supposed do to be the equivalent of hyper-blue?
3 silvers. 3 blues. 2 reds. Wow, boring. Was really hoping for some changes.
WhooHoo!!! AB is still in the mix!!! Awesome color!!! 🙂
<blockquote>i knew it would be some kind of black…now it remains astro black :(</blockquote>
It’s not black, it’s a really really dark metlic blue.
I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more Silver.
I was sure we’d be seeing Astro Silver, British Racing Silver and Lightning Silver.
Yawn. 😛
If you’re as upset as I am the they dropped Hyper Blue, call <em>866.ASK.MINI</em> and tell them so. I’m told that customer feedback kept Liquid Yellow alive longer than MINI intended, it could do the same for Hyper Blue.
I am happy to see the final list. I do however really wish that we saw a little broader color pallet, I can however say that I generally like the line-up. I do believe that a car manufacturer that promotes being unique in their product should relieze that their customer base are always looking for something a little different and unique.
Things I expect is that we will always have Chilie pepper red and Brittish racing green colors. Adding silver, blue, yellow, white and black does do a pretty good job of covering most of the bases. I already know that the moment my R56 rolls off the truck its first stop will be at my autobody shop for compleate disassembly and repainting as the current color choices don’t include the color of choice of my wife lol.
will the silver roof be available? …but anyway – my new favorite is MY/black!
<blockquote>I’m told that customer feedback kept Liquid Yellow alive longer than MINI intended, it could do the same for Hyper Blue.</blockquote>
I think it was dropped worldwide at the same time. That would seem to indicate that they stuck to whatever color rotation schedule they had, and did not make a special effort to keep it alive in the US market.
I think many will be disappointed by the fact that Jet Black isn’t coming back yet. That just Sucks IMO!
For people who really want BLACK. Astro Black just doesn’t cut it. It’s a great color, dont get me wrong, but it has soo much damn metallic in it, its like a dark dark navy color. I’m sure many will be upset about this.
Astro Blue Rocks! I had JB on my ’03 and was sad that it wasn’t offered on my ’06, but after having AB I wouldn’t go back to JB.
OK, So they dropped Indi Blue and introduced Hyper Blue. Now they drop Hyper Blue. Do we know what Lightning Blue looks like?
This weekend, I just saw Space Blue in person with Silver top/mirrors and it is nice too. Is Lightning Blue similar? Laser Blue just looks like a darker Electric Blue (which always looked good in photos and under lights but isn’t as owner friendly since it is too trendy).
<blockquote>I think it was dropped worldwide at the same time.</blockquote>
The guy at MINI told me that they had wanted to get rid of Liquid Yellow much earlier.
IMHO, too many silvers. Nice to see Laser Blue in there. And I’m glad MINI is keeping Pepper White in the mix. Overall though, it’s quite a color pallet and better than most other manufactures.
Once color type that is missing is a pearlescent.
Will sparkling silver be available on MCS
>OK, So they dropped Indi Blue and introduced Hyper Blue. Now they drop Hyper Blue. Do we know what Lightning Blue looks like?
Surprisingly kinda like Indie Blue.

Unfortunately Munich has spoken and Hyper Blue is quite dead.
I saw the article and realized sparlling silver will be available on mcs. Sorry for not reading it more closely.

Cool! My ’06 Space Blue/Silver combo now officially enters the ‘realm of rare’ as a single year color offering!
as does my Royal Grey, and the solar reds as well….
More color fun to start the week, eh? It looks like I’ll have a difficult choice in colors between Mellow Yellow, Chili Red, Pepper White, Laser Blue, and now Lightning Blue (since it is a rebirth of Indie Blue!!!). I’m sure my mind will change 2 gajillion times between now and 2008. Not a bad thing, though…
Do these color changes affect the convertible too? It would be strange to still offer, say, Hyper Blue on the convertible but not the (new body) hardtop, since they’re all built on the same production line
My better half likes Dark Silver but I’m leaning to something a little “brighter”. So now I have to decide between Mellow Yellow and the two new Metallic Blues.
I saw that MINI2 is reporting a “Pure” White but it’s not on the above list. Could this be the seventh color promised but not delievered?
Look forward to seeing samples of all the new colors.
Nice to see best color know to the Mini is still available – Astro Black! =) Although I don’t understand why any car company wouldn’t offer a true black as well…Not the smartest company in the world i see :/
RE: cabrios
If that color pallet does apply to the cabrio, then it looks like Hot Orange will no longer be around either. Hopefully that is not the case. It would actually be nice to see Hot Orange (or another orange) available on the hatch.
I know colors are usually decided on by market trends, and unfortunately end up pretty dull. But, could someone please enlighten me as to why they can’t just add a few really unique, low-volume colors? The production line painting is all automated, isn’t it?
Gabe:
So are the roof colors going to remain the same? Black/Body Color/White/Silver? Are there going to be any surprises there?
Sparkling Silver? Does “Sparkling” mean “not at all”? I just don’t see this as silver, but I didn’t think Royal Gray looked gray either. Maybe I am color deficient?
Great begining on the colors.
When can we match up interior colors with exterior choices.
I’d still like to see a red interior as came on the 2003
<blockquote>So are the roof colors going to remain the same? Black/Body Color/White/Silver? Are there going to be any surprises there?
Silver roofs are closely tied to the special edition Seven, Checkmate and Park Lane, as are the colors Solar Red, Space Blue and Royal Grey. (Although that isn’t so obvious in the US, it’s much more so in other markets). So expect to see silver roofs again once the R56 nears the end of its life cycle 😉 (Actually, they have done it already once before, with the parting of the classic Mini).</blockquote>
<blockquote>Unfortunately Munich has spoken and Hyper Blue is quite dead.</blockquote>
<blockquote>Surprisingly [Lightning Blue looks] kinda like Indie Blue.</blockquote>
Gabe, use your awesome powers and make it all not true. (Kidding) But seriously, does Lightning Blue look purple in anything but direct sunlight like Indi Blue does? Or is it like a slightly darker Hyper Blue? (What does this have to do with lightning?) And, when will you be posting a screen shot?
It REALLY sucks that there is no “REAL” black.
<blockquote>I already know that the moment my R56 rolls off the truck its first stop will be at my autobody shop for compleate disassembly and repainting as the current color choices don’t include the color of choice</blockquote>
Same here… I guess MINI is to “unique” and fun to have a plane and simple color like Black. They should change “Astro Black” to “Astro black-at-night-though-blue-during-the-day”… Come on MINI, give us a REAL black (Jet Black)!
I want hyperblue…
if you look at the picture of the mellow yellow, you will notice that the bumper and hatch are slightly brighter than the surroundings. Is this because of some sort of disguise or is this how it will look? When i received my PW, the bumper was slightly off, but that was supposedly because it’s made of different material.
<blockquote>Do these color changes affect the convertible too? It would be strange to still offer, say, Hyper Blue on the convertible but not the (new body) hardtop, since they’re all built on the same production line</blockquote>
No stranger than offering a color on the Cooper and not on the S (and vice versa) since all three models end up running down the same production line after departing the “body in white” phase.
Very dissapointing. I know green is out as far as fashion, but evey time I see a silk green mini I have to stare, it’s lovely.
Only one exclusive color now for each model, just wish it had been Nightfire Red on the MCS.
Any word on the colors for the Clubman?
I wonder if any of these color changes have anything to do with the new paint process?
Hot Orange and any orange would have been nice for the future:(
You’d think with 3 MINIs at the Dragon (2006) that were different shades of pink that they’d do a pink??? HaHa. But seriously, color is what the masses want – give it to the peoples!!!
Boring.
They should have taken a few chances. The only color I actually like is MC exclusive (the dark met. red).
I shall do what we here in Philly do best…
BOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I will probably be looking to add a second MINI to the stable in early 2008. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a hardtop orange. A color like hot orange would be great, but I would really like a non-metallic competition orange.
On a different note I really like the looks of the new yellow. It looks like it is a lot closer to the solar yellow I had on my Nissan Frontier. If I can’t get a good orange I may go for yellow.
Yea go orange for a comeback color…MINIUSA are you reading this;)
Mellow yellow is super as are the rest…..I’m quite pleased. Nightfire red can pick up where Velvet Red left off……AND……we’ve not seen Oxygen Blue yet. If it is a teal color it’ll be a very interesting addition.
<a href="http://gallery.mg-rover.org/showphoto.php/photo/1067" rel="nofollow">Here</a> is a Rover in oxygen blue.
Gabe:
Is the link to sparkling silver down? The other jpg’s come up; it does not.
Thanks
For the 2007 convertible the comments danced around the answer. Is there a published list of colors for the MCSC?
I have seen oxygen blue, it was posted somewhere but not sure where… It is a very light blue – not sure what teal really looks like…
What is the difference between sparkling silver and real silver? Just guessing , maybe shinier?
Sparkling silver looks closer to a beige/tan than actual Silver color. There should be pics of it somewhere – probably on one of the review posts.
Would like to to see Lighning Blue, esp if it looks similar to Indigo
There’s a link to Sparkling Silver in the store above.
They should be able to do a real White and Jet Black as that is what color they paint the roofs and mirrors…?
I wanted some more fun colors 🙁 What about a berry or purple or gold….???
What is up with BMW?? No one needs more than 1 silver.
I am frustrated by the fact they have colors available on the MC but not on the MCS and vice versa… Mini’s are all about choice, so give us all as many choices as possible please Mini! Pure White, Pure Black, and lots of bright color options.
Was going to buy a new 07, but really wanted jet black, now I won’t buy one at all…. come on people figure it out we want a real jet black, not Astro..
It’s ridiculous that MINI has STILL not listened to the community and brought out a truer BRG, a real black, and a few other good colors. 2002 had some great colors and the choices have gone downhill since then.
I love Dark Silver (I’ve had two so far) but 3 silvers is stupid! Wake up MINI!
Is lightening blue darker or lighter than lazer blue?
I’ve been given the impression that Lightning Blue is darker than Laser Blue.
I’ve seen the initial pics of the blue 2007 MCS referred to BOTH as Laser Blue AND Lightning BLUE, though (on Mini company sites, even!)… so I’m interested in the final answer to this mystery.
I want a darker blue than shown in the pics/video, for sure!
This is very cool. I now have a very collectable MCS. Space blue with Sliver roof, both less than one year colors from a year with reduced production.
Is it NOT obvious that the MiNi is a unique car?! Why then are the colors so BLAH? Agreed, 3 silvers & slightly changed blues… WHY? If MiNi is afraid they are not grabbing the “male” consumer, they’re nuts thinking macho blase colors are going to improve sales. Mach men wont’ buy MiNi no matter the color; the bonehead macho man will buy a HUMMER (which, by the way, DOES come in some very nice brilliant colors). I wrote once before & I’ll say it again… Lime Green, Gremlin Green, Sunburst Yellow, Tangerine Dream, Mango Z Tango, Plum Crazy Purple, HOT PiNK, Lick My Lavender, My My Magenta could all be BRIGHT colors with FUN names!!! THAT is what MINI should be about!!! How can HUMMERs have better colors (note the VW Bugs usually have excellent color choices too though often too many pastels).
I’m with ya on the color choices! Why can’t you even get a hardtop in hot orange? They have the paint already.
Hot orange would be wonderful. I love that color and the matching stitching on the leather is so… Ah, it’s just what I want.
Thank God I got my Solid Gold 04 before the colors went BLAH…
Art
Why are there FOUR blues? Astro “Black” is just Metallic Navy. Come on MINI, make Jet Black and Pure White options for the 2008 model year. There was no black for 2006 or 2007. Don’t make it three long years without black as an option.
I’ve ordered my sparkling silver Cooper S, with black roof, and chequered flag mirror caps!
Can’t bloody wait!!
