You just can’t keep a good commercial down. Or in this case, a sneak peak at a good commercial. More than a couple people had the video cameras (or were they phone cameras?) rolling earlier this week when MINI starting filming their first R56 commercials. As you may remember we linked to a video and several photos just hours after the shoot only to have everything pulled off the web shortly afterwards.
However our good friends at Jalopnik have the whole story including another angle of video and detailing on the filming. Click the link for the story and the big ole screen below for some behind the scenes action.

It looks like the commercial is about how dangerous it will be to be driving between two much larger cars.
Or wait, the first car is a the “camera” car.
I get it…
Maybe the commercial is about rednicks chasing a europhag in the mean back alleys of ‘Merca.
actually the snach-and -grab scene in old school happens to be great. master of puppets was the perfect song for that. when he tackles spanish into the fountain- priceless. im gonna go pop in the dvd now
I’m still curious to know why there is a R56 and an R53 made to look like an R56. The leading theory is the R56 needed a stunt double. I dunno.
Another one <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5vr4f6Tlqs" rel="nofollow">here…</a>
There was one more video that NAM member archie4oz caught from his apartment window in downtown LA:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5vr4f6Tlqs" rel="nofollow ugc">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5vr4f6Tlqs</a>
I posted that link as well as a High quality version from Archie4oz’s website on the <a href="http://motoringfile.com/2006/11/13/mini-usa-r56-commercial-sneak-peak/" rel="nofollow">other MF Page</a>
that broke this story.
My wife Judy and I observed a different MINI ad shoot just before Halloween in downtown Los Angeles. Here’s a link:

It’s been up for a while, and we haven’t been kkeeping it a secret, but I held off mentioning it in context of these other posts, in order to prevent getting a polite request to remove it.
Anyway, some substantial differences:
Features a Modded pre-2007 MINI Cooper with aero kit;
Different production company (Tool North America);
Unique “bullfight” theme/scenario;
Special FX “Bully” SUV, with pneumatic suspension, made to look like it’s (a) out of control, and (b) wounded and “bleeding” coolant…

Nothing but more good exposure for MINI. These types of “leaks” strike me as not much different that “spy shots” of test mules MINI is driving on open roads. It fans the flames of enthusiasm and hypes the release of the finished product.
that looks like a Porsche SUV as the lead car with the film equipment! neato . . .
One of the customers of the business I work for claimed that MINI was filming a commercial today (11/16/06) at their home in the Hidden Valley area of Thousand Oaks, CA off of Potrero Road. I unfortunately won’t be able to check it out, but it was interesting news.
When don’t they film something in L.A.?
Thats the Flash MINI Car “spy car”.
