This past Tuesday the first official Hot Chocolate pre-prodution Clubman rolled down the line at the Oxford Plant. It was described as a “dark shade of brown but with the most gorgous metallic gold flip to it”. We should be seeing actual spy photos relatively soon and press photos in the not to distant future.
While I border on being a Clubman hater I think that the Chocolate brown will look very cool on the car. It’s good to see the Clubman getting some loving from Mini. I am sure many will not be happy that its not flat but I give them credit for doing something atleast.
I doubt a performance edition of the Clubman will come out in 2008, the Clubman itself is expected to begin sales in 2008 so if there is a performance version of it I am betting one of two things must happen, either a couple of years to go by after its released, or more likely when/if the factory JCW comes out both models (R56 and Clubman) will be able to get the performance upgrade. Still wonder though about adding performance to a heavier car but then again that just me.
I agree Jon, I doubt there will be a performance edition available at release – was thinking more on the lines of the old 40th Anv. editon – a special paint-job/theme. It was rumored a few months ago that “something” might be in the works with the Clubman coming out about the same time as the 2008 MTTS.
From the description, the color sounds like some similar cars that I saw at the DC car show a few months back. If it’s like a two-tone copper color that was on display (don’t remember what display… Scion maybe) it’s going to look very nice, IMO!!
I can’t think of any colors MINI has gone “horribly wrong” with….none. Even the less popular ones have their loyal fan clubs. The same will happen here. I’m glad there will be some exclusivity for Clubman owners…they deserve it. The rest of us can just take a hike and stew in our envy!!!
I don’t know. I fondly remember my friend Jeff’s chocolate brown Rabbit from high school. Not metallic, but a nice milk chocolate color. I think this will fly.
Brown cars are shite. Go to a British Car show this summer and check out the Brown MGBs and Brown Spitfires. That is assuming the last brown ones haven’t had their poopy color changed by smart owners.
Sounds outstanding!

Anything more in the rumor mill about a special editon Clubman to be rolled out for the 2008 MTTS, like the GP was for the 2006 MTTS?
UGH! The colour that is. I didn’t know you could drive a sketch? =;¬)

NOT METALLIC!!! NO!!!!
UGH! I concur! Rollin’ kaka! BMW reverts back to the 70’s…how retro can we get!

-Paul!
Have a feeling that this color is going to look nice, metallic or not.
mmmmm….. chocolate….. But who would buy a brown MINI? 😉
I would… But only since it’s named Hot Chocolate.
CHOCOLATE ROCKS! Why don’t they make the R56’s in that color?

I grew up in the 70’s and saw brown AMCs. I can testify that brown is the worst car imaginable for any car.

Porsche has a dark green, with an almost gold flip to it on the Turbo Carrera–if it is anything at all like that color, it will be incredible.
