MF Exclusive: Last year we broke the news of MINI’s featured (and exclusive) color of the 2008 Clubman; Hot Choclate. A few months ago we showed you a colorized sketch of the Clubman in all its cocoa glory. However today, we can finally show you the real thing. The photo to the right (click to expand) is an actual paint slave from the Clubman’s manufacturing process. This plastic piece is used by the Oxford paint shop to hold the door slightly during the painting process.
As we reported previously, Hot Chocolate will be a metallic paint that is quite dark in normal light. However, in this image you can clearly see the metallic flakes are exaggerated due to the lighting.
Very nice. I am still lamenting the loss of Royal Gray. I had heard that European metallic flake tends to be finer than that used US. I wouldn’t worry too much about the look of the picture. Should look very good–especially with a silver roof! We always seem to see the same part with these color samples. What is a paint slave, anyway? Is it a bracket used to hold the parts during the paint process?

Did I just not read this before? If so, sorry for the question in my previous post. I’m dumb. If you added this after my post, Thanks! Always wondered what we were looking at.
I think it will look great in person, on the clubman, especially with a white roof. Like a cup of hot chocolate with a big white marshmallow floating on top!
I was really hoping for a nice non-metallic chocolate brown as used on various German cars in the 70s. That would look so “sweet” with a white roof. Oh, well. MINI has always disappointed (me) with its metallic-biased colour palette; I suppose I was naive to expect anything new.
Porsche just announced a new metallic color called Macademia, kinda similar from the pics of the new 911 turbo cabriolet on the web site. Maybe it’s a color trend!
I’d want to see it on the car itself. Never been a hige fan of brown cars – very few brown color cars have appealed to me. There have been some, but not many.
I think the sample looks really nice, but again, until it’s live and on the full car I will reserve any final judgement.

Do you remember a couple of years back, an issue with rust in the door jam under the seal caused by a 2 inch unpainted bit? I wonder if this is the source?
Given the trends in color forecasting, I’m interested to see what else shows up in this color family next year. Although Microsoft already has the brown Zune. Anybody excited? Me neither. Ha! But a hot chocolate/silver clubman ought to look delicious.
A bucket ‘o mud with fool’s gold flakes – hmm. Have to see it in the light of day before deciding. Still awaiting a fridge turquoise and white if possible.
It looks like the Clubman could be the world’s coolest UPS truck. 🙂
Actually, the color will probably look good on the Clubman. I can visualize it with a set of broze lightweight alloy wheels. However, I’m just not a fan of brown cars. To each their own as I know a lot of people who think my choice of pearl orange on my other car is a bit extreme.
It’s ok to my eye, but very happy its a Clubman color so it will never follow me home lol. Could actually look pretty decent not sure of a silver roof and brown body with gold flakes. But having said, that to each their own
“I believe in miracles,
Where you’re from,
You sexy thing,
You sexy thing,you.” From the song,”Sexy Thing”,by Hot Chocolate(A famous,”blue-eyed”,Soul Band,from the ’70s/’80s). Sorry Gabe…couldn’t help myself,he-he-he…
Might look cool with a white (or a custum CREAM!) top. I’m thinking Tuscan Beige Gravity Leather, LIGHT-colored headliner, Interior Chrome kit, English Oak and Cream color-line. Could be cool. Maybe…
>I read some where there would be a new – special ‘Brown’ shade of leather to complement this color. Anyone seen the rumored new interior color?
Hot Chocolate/Silver and brown lounge leather will most likely be the combo seen on at least one of the launch supply Clubmen. I expect it will be a polarizing combo (love/hate it) just like Sparkling silver/black and Redwood Lounge leather was at the R56 launch.
they should call it sweet cocoa..
no matter what they call it, i like it.
Looks like chocolate. Are they in production now?
I was a little dubious at first, but now, I actually like it. It has a little bit of a 70’s feel to it.
So how big is that object anyway…the metallic flakes look huge!!
I hope it looks better in person. It reminds me of my parents 1983 Volvo Station Wagon. I’ll be sticking with my Chili Red/Black Roof R56.

I agree, it does look good and will look fab on the Clubman!!!
hmmmm looks like a sparkley turd to me LOL ; )
Looks like Candy Apple … uh… Brown?
I’m sure the flakes are small – looks like a flash made them jump. I’m quite sure I had a Hot Wheels car in this color in the 70s.
Looks really good … would benefit from constantly keeping the car clean and living in an always sunny region of the country
When are the Official Press pics of the Clubman out anyway?

Nice!
looks great! I can’t to see them!
It’s good they didn’t call it Hot Coffee…I think that name was already taken…

sweet! looks like the 70s Nova sort of color…just what i was hoping!

Looks good but I would have called it “Root Beer”
Finally someone has a vision to bring new color out for cars. Just look at any parking lot full of boring colors. Enough Silver and grey cars.
I think the Honda Element already uses the name Root Beer for their metallic brown.
Regardless, I like it!
Yeeeessss am yur fada, U can Call me Goldmember

Love it in the pic, but I’m afraid all the clouds and rain will make it look too dark around here.
I wreally want to see it with a silver roof and stripes though.
I’d want to see it on the car itself. Never been a hige fan of brown cars – very few brown color cars have appealed to me. There have been some, but not many.

The brown TL Acura’s look nice and so does the Audi A8….I think any color in metallic looks good.</blockquote>
Very nice color. It should go fine with a contrasting silver roof. This color reminds me of the old Velvet Red Metallic offered in the early Coopers.
Thei Clubman is looking better by the day. I better give my dealer a call…

My old early 70’s Austin wagon was brown, but just the plain brown, not metallic. That I can learn to love.
I can only think of my Chevy pickup that was this color metallic, we called it **** brown.
Reminds me of my Dad’s 1966 Dodge Dart…will wait to see it on the car before rendering a verdict.
Brown – a new trend? Brown was edgy maybe 8 years ago. Brown is solidly mainstream now. You think they are going to take a chance with a color?

Wish it was a non-metallic.
