Taken from the MySpace page devoted to the ad:
>The ‘Messeturm’ and MINI Clubman – giant projections over Frankfurt. This unique project was part of the innovative launch campaign for the IAA. The projection was seen 100 meters above the ground, covering 10 stories of the building, with a height of 40 meters. It gave the city a new, unmistakable face for the IAA motor show.
>As a result of high pressure caused by competitors, this projection of the interactive MINI Clubman movie has been banned by the city after three days of playing.
Here’s a video of the ad itself:

awesome.
fab!
probably did MINI adverts a favor by officially banning it.
What’s that tune?

As a result of high pressure caused by competitors, this projection of the interactive MINI Clubman movie has been banned by the city after three days of playing.

The old saying. If you can’t beat them, join them. The new saying. If you can’t beat them, whine.
Nice advertising.
They’re just angry that MINI beat them to it! You can’t tell me that every company that complained, would not have tried the same thing if they thought of it.
Am I missing something? Why is this banned? And how do we ban anymore Clubman postings on MF? I’m sorry, did I say that out loud?
Three days of playing ain’t bad if the competitor’s whining gets you even more attention!! I love the “See Me Over There —>” thing. Overall…really nice idea!!!
Okay, I’m dense. Why was this banned? Not the obnoxious throbbing soundtrack, I suppose. Is this an exceptionally provocative ad? Does it interest anyone in the product?
The video is great! As for the whining on the part of their competitors, all I’ll say is that marketing people go out of their minds at big trade shows like this. There is so much money in play that it’s no huge surprise that some would resort to whining to the city. The sad part is that the city bowed to the pressure – although there is economic pressure to deal with there too. Lots of revenue for the city at risk if everybody isn’t happy. Still pretty lame.
Yeah! That was awesome! Kind of hard to top that. I can only imagine seeing it in person. If I were a competing brand at IAA I’d probably complain too! 🙂
Good on Mini for (quite literally) going above the heads of their competition with this advertising.
Damn this video for getting such a catchy tune stuck in my head, though. Can anyone identify it?
hi there,
the song in the video is called “Baby” from “Grunge33”.
you will find a link on the banned mini myspace site.

Excellent. Thank you, minihead.

What’s pathetic about this is that if it was an ad for an Apple Ipod, people wouldn’t complain a bit! Ridiculous. Wonder if Apple has spread an odorless gas that makes people go brain-dead.
