We’ve had a couple of readers write to us with juicy rumors of the dealer installed JCW Engine kit being discontinued now that the factory car has been announced. So we’ve reached out to our contacts and at MINI for clarification. The answer is that the dealer installed kit will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. And at $2100 we believe it (along with the JCW suspension) continue to be a relative performance bargain.
On another topic, we’ve also got confirmation that MINI USA is continuing to progress with it’s dealer installed engine kit for the automatic Cooper S (coupe). So for all those waiting for that kit, don’t give up yet.
GABE
I know they are vague on the AUTO TRANS KIT but do you know if they are going to release it and it is a matter of time or does don’t give up yet imply a last effort to try to get the kit to work. I have been waiting for 4 months now and really want the kit but don’t want to wait another 4 months but I would wait 1 or 2 more.It would be great if we could get an update on the Auto Kit that was more specific. Why can we not get it now?
I have looked everywhere for info on this subject and it seems you are my only hope.
More importantly, for those people who ordered the JCW kit on an Auto car and it was released by MINI USA/installed by the dealer, what will happen to them when this much-delayed kit is finally finished? I’ve heard that it will simply be an ECU upgrade, that all the physical parts are the same. Although, no one from MINI USA or Morristown MINI has guaranteed this. Disconcerting to say the least.
If new/different hardware AND software is part of this kit, I’ll be sure to hold both parties (corporate and dealer) responsible for outfitting my car correctly.
What’s the average cost of install for the dealer-installed kit?
The average cost is 2400 installed
I had almost given up all hope of seeing the jcw kit for the auto , thanx for giving me a little more hope.
All you automatic drivers highjacked this thread. How is the aero kit a “performance bargain”? I don’t believe $2100 includes install(?)and although it looks good(except in back)how is it a real world performance enhancer except at very high speed. Or are you just refering to track/autobahn use?
Mowse:
Crack kills, there still time don’t give up
now back to the tuning kit thread
I don’t think anyone here is talking about an aerokit.
It is rumored that the Aero Kit gives you an extra 20hp.
Yes, upon further review my sustance abuse has indeed altered my perception. As a stage one owner I do agree that the TUNING kit is a performance bargain. I guess the blinding hideousness of the factory body kit thread affected my senses. I’ll go back to my corner now.
LOL
Any word on the JCW kit for the Clubman?
sigh
When I got my 2005 Mini I paid $7,839.50 for the JCW Engine Kit and $1,479.50 for the JCW Suspension, pretax. At the time the dealer was carrying on about protecting investment and value of the brand, etc. etc. and wanted us to sign a form giving them first right of refusal should we wish to sell within a year so that resale values stay high. 3 months later my lawyer gets his JCW for around 5 grand, and so it went. Do I feel ripped? Absolutely. Do I regret the car? Hell no!
Edit for the above. 2005 model year and the new Mini are not the same, so not really comparing apples to apples with my mini-rant above. My bad.
Don’t feel bad AJ. I’m on my third Mini two of which were orders. I went JCW simple twice and bought so much over priced stuff that didn’t hold its value at all. Talk about crack, I couldn’t stop myself. And now I’m thinking about ordering the last of the JCW covertibles!!!! BTW, this is WAAAAy off topic BUT my MA tells me June is going to be the cutoff for first gen convertibles. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Does adding more accessories and performance equal a higher selling price? Will buyers want to pay more for a used car with extras than a new basic car? In my experience all the extras count for no increase in selling price – the only benefit is the car may be more or less marketable to someon who wants the extras.
