CNNMoney and Intellichoice have put together a list of Top 5 Cars that will get you the most bang for the buck. Of course, the MINI Made the list.
>It boasts cool design, easy handling, the ability to park in even the tiniest spaces and the lowest maintenance cost in its class (maintenance is covered for three years or 36,000 miles).
>Maybe that’s why its resale value is nothing short of phenomenal: 77% after five years.
Nothing we didn’t already know, but it’s always nice to see it on other sites. And, 77% is pretty strong, but I doubt I’d get that with my ’03 with almost 190K miles on the clock.
The people at CNN are smoking something if they are reporting 77% resale value after 5 years. A quick survey of about 25 people in our local MINI club that sold 4 and 5 year old MINIs over the past year or so pegged at 50% for 5 yrs, and 60% for 4 yrs. on average, with trade-in values way below that. And surprisingly almost all the time the lowest trade-in valuations offered were from the local MINI dealers.
77% resale value is a joke, you will be lucky to get 50% after 4 yrs with average milage , and trade in values are worse, thease are all relative to what car you are trading it in against,I predict even less resale values as the market has more mini’s out there.
I think the resale values cnn are using were probably based on when mini’s first came out.
ther will be a lot of disapointed mini owners out ther when the come to sell or trade in there cars
Maybe they were looking at the Dealer price or Private Party sale for a five year old MINI. I still don’t understand why someone would buy a one or two year old MINI when you can buy a new one from the dealer for the same price or less…
What’s the maintenance worth anyway? With the long intervals on the R56, doesn’t that work out to just one oil change? I thought most of the components were supposed to wear out much further along than that, making it an easy-to-care-for car.
I’m not sure I’d ever want to own an out-of-warranty BMW or MINI. Even CPO worries me – there are a lot of things it doesn’t cover. Lots of suspension components seem to wear out that are covered only under the 4 year/50k warranty. I know a few people who bought CPO BMWs and very early on got socked with some annoying bills to repear “wear and tear” items all over the car.
