MINI Canada Factory JCW Details

Thanks to one of our tipsters we’ve managed to get a hold of the internal planning document for the Canadian market JCW launch later this year. If you live in Canada and are interested in a new factory JCW car, this document is probably what you’ve been waiting for (with the exception of final pricing). Here’s an excerpt:
>MINI Canada is pleased to provide preliminary ordering information for MINI John Cooper Works and MINI John Cooper Works Clubman. The John Cooper Works (JCW) brand represents the performance platform within the MINI group. It combines an iconic brand with a rich racing heritage, performance engineering, and an increased level of driving excitement. The JCW brand is for the driving enthusiast and represents extreme performance and driving fun, with an unconventional attitude. It is based on the combination of the John Cooper story, premium performance, engineering and the essence of MINI.
>With a newly developed turbo charged engine, exclusive 17″ John Cooper Works Cross Spoke Challenge wheel, new sport double exhaust system with 85mm tips, and 4 piston front brake callipers the John Cooper Works models cater to the driving enthusiast.
>For the first time the technically advanced control system, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), has been used on a MINI. DTC allows more slip for greater driving excitement. Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) is also new on the JCW models. EDLC ensures power gets to the wheel with the most grip. The faster responding and more flexible electronic system utilizes the braking system to maximize traction. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), DTC and EDLC are standard on all John Cooper Works models.

…uh you forgot to mention the “Aerodynamic Body Kit”
Surely this is a cruel hoax 😛
yes, but is it available in colors other than red?
The answers to all your questions are in the PDF.
For those who complained about the factory JCW not looking distinctive from the standard model, it has suddenly turned into “be careful what you wish for…”
The Aerodynamic body kit?
<blockquote>Aerodynamic Body Kit (differs from Aftersales JCW Aero Kit) </blockquote>
There you have it – they are dumping the factory aero kits on Canada by making them standard on the JCW factory car…
I got nothing, just wanna cry myself to sleep…
I agree, rkw. This makes no sense. So they throw in the hideous aero kit instead of the JCW? Really, people like that better. I’m getting mixed signals. First MINI says we want the customer to customize in whatever way, now they throw in something that I can’t imagine anyone wanting to leave on. MINI, give us the option to do the aero kit from the factory. That would be a good solution.
The PDF is so messed up. They call it the “John Cooper Works Aero Body Kit” (which it is not), and then show pictures of it on a non-S Cooper!
The document makes no sense…
Change in pistons, cylinder head and gasket, INCREASE BOOST? Better flowing heads LOWER BOOST by flowing more gasses…
Clutch has enhanced clamping force that increases engine power? How the heck does it do that?
There’s crap a plenty in this document. I sure hope it’s an early version…
This one I love…. The new exhaust manifold has “enhanced sealing”… Either the old one sealed or it didn’t.
And the new cat has less pressure drop (OK, that’s good) for Easy Flow Off? WTF is that?
Gotta love marketing departments…
Matt
Why the hell would they include that hideous body kit on there when it would make more sense to include the actual JCW body kit? So if I wanted the actual JCW body kit, they would have to rip off the nasty aero kit and charge me for the actual JCW kit? I swear the people in charge at BMW Canada have a few screws loose.
I guess if someone was to order it, they could sell the existing body kit.
how do I have to understand the “top speed, electronically limit” part ?
Is that also the case for a R56 ?
MINI is blowing it in my opinion. Sad times. They can still turn it around. All JCW accessories as factory options.
Not only do we get terrible pricing relative to the US, but we get the shaft due to them adding the fugly body kit. I was seriously thinking about one of these — before my current MCS started having all sorts of problems, but that’s another story — but now I’ll have to think of something else. Wish the Mazdaspeed 3 was gonna be around after this year…
My MINI dealer (in the US) showed me something like page 3 of that PDF that was talking about the new factory aero kit, same pictures but the one I saw said nothing of this car or it being a JCW product. Odd.
Happier than ever that I took my deposit on the factory jcw and bought what I was really looking for. A sterling performance care with unique looks….

Congratulations, Jon!
Smart choice…
Yep – I got the same PDF from my dealer. That factory aero kit is horrible. Seems like their dumping them on Canadian cars, as a means to justify the discrepant pricing. Now, if I order one, I have to spend more money to ditch it! I would take the standard Clubman S front/rear bumpers anyday!
At least it includes a the sports suspension…
Is a similar PDF available for the USA Factory JCW?
I have scans of the MINI USA one that lists options, prices, etc in .jpg format. Can email it to someone if they’d like.
JFW – we’ve already posted pretty much all the relevant information for the US market inluding pricing etc. Take a look at the JCW section for the related stories.
Oh. My. I just came in from a BMW launch event at my local dealer (showing off the X6, M3, and 1) feeling pretty good all in all (good catering too!)… then I read here that our factory JCW’s will have the horrid body kit rather than the JCW kit! Careful what you wish for indeed!
When they arrive at my local dealer, I am tempted to park my 2006 MCS Factory JCW Competition Edition (a Canadian-only limited run spec) next to one of the new CDN MCS Factory JCW’s and send the side-by-side photo to BMW Canada with “OK, which of you hosers said giv’er?” 🙂
mini already lost me as a customer… for this year anyway. I’m going to give them one last chance to make things right with their 50th anniversary edition, which had better be the JCW mini we all should have gotten off the bat. Meaning JCW as it is today, plus JCW bodykit and the suspension… they can keep all their tacky JCW branded shiftknobs, side sills, emblems, etc to themselves. All for under $30K USD… i dont want their stupid JCW branded crap all over the car. just give me the performance bits and aero parts dammit!
one last chance… then im looking elsewhere… meaning VW (as much as i hate to go that route, but that GTI is looking good with its price tag… even the R32 looks better at that price point.)
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Gabe! I really appreciate it.
We’ll also have more details in the coming week.
I don’t know what’s up with the aero kit. The price to manufacture both version must be the same…so why go with the ugly one? It’s so ugly, you won’t be able to take it off and sell it to people. I echo other poster’s comments. This has to be one to the most unpolished car roll outs I have ever experienced. Confusion at all levels.
How much is the Lancer Evo X again?
Likely because they had plenty setting around on the shelf unsold 😉
Butt Ugly is the only way to describe the Aero Kit that they will force Canadian buyers to accept as “standard” on the JCW Factory model. Shame, Shame !
they probably did this because in some places in Canada in January the JCW car with the areo kit could be a snow plow.
