We’ve been talking to Rauno everyday this week and getting some great stories from him! This is our actually interview with him from MTTS Miami.
Little did Rauno know, but Todd kept the recorder running *a little longer* than the actual interview, so we also got him talking about traction and how it applies to the MINI. He is brilliant!
Enjoy.
By the way, you have registered, right? If you are planning to attend MTTS Boston, Chicago or LA, make sure you do that now!

I could listen to Rauno all day long. Great stuff.
Agreed! He was one of the first of the rally drivers that began taking an almost scientific look at the dynamics of it all – he fit like a glove with the hyper-organized BMC rally team. The stack of different specialty tires available for team cars was towering, and the ice-notes they prepped with were way in advance of everybody else. Did you chaps get him to bring any of his photos from those days? – he was quite the shutterbug. Great interview!
I’ve been very lucky to meet Rauno a few times with work, and be a passenger with him in a MINI twice, once around the MINI United Track in Misano 2005, and once at a Dealer Event in Barcelona 2004 for the launch of the R52. We were further blessed with Rauno sharing our table for our evening meal, and he’s spellbinding to listen to. We all sat there like kids on Christmas Eve listening to stories of Rallies, and Minis, and it’s just one of those things you’ll always remember :

What a treat…thanks guys!!!
He is amazing. Gear UP, Hmmmn
Don’t forget Firefox download day is today!
I got to meet him in Charleston on Monday. He is a very fascinating man. I was able to get a singed picture of him as the Flying Finn.
Rauno is a fantastic guy. Too bad I didn’t get too much seat time with him. You don’t get to shake hands with racing legends of his calibre on a daily basis, that’s for sure.

One of the best parts of the last week was having him along and, in fact, shaking his hand every day.
Plus he tells some very funny jokes!
