50th Anniversary of MINI to be Celebrated at Silverstone Next May?
Recently we heard from a source that MINI is currently planning the 50th Anniversary of the brand to coincide with a large event at Silverstone Racetrack in the UK. Based on what we’ve known for awhile about MINI’s event schedule, we’d guess that this event will likely be MINI United 2009 and that it will take place in late May of 2009.
We’re still trying to confirm much of this but the information appears quite credible at this point. So for those thinking of doing MINI United 2009 – you may want to pencil it in early.
Silverstone will be a great place to enjoy the 50th anniversary, I will be attending this without a doubt.
Really hopping that they come up with something very special for the 50th. I would love to see something as unique as the GP, although maybe not just a sports variety. I think this is a great opportunity for Mini to toot its own horn and gather a lot of great press.
Looking forward to seeing a lot of rabid Mini fans from the US over at the event, whether we agree or disagree on subjects always a blast to see people passionate about the brand.
Was at Let’s mini last weekend in germany, and talked to some people for BMW/MINI from munchen, and they confirmed it, later at the opening of the event, by Dr. Kay Segler, Senior Vice President Brand Management MINI He told it too It will be held last weekend of may, and if it is the same as the mini 40 event 10 years ago, you don’t have to miss it
At the IMM (another big event not covered on here, btw, it is, afterall, mainly a US site :)), talk was still about Mini United to take place at the factory at Cowley/Oxford. Glad a good tradition is being revived 🙂
>Why is there no information about the latest MINI event: LETSMINI in Hildesheim, Germany??
We’d love to cover it but we never received any reader reports about the event as we did previously.

We generally rely on readers to cover large events located outside the US most of the time and we simply haven’t gotten any help with that this year.
At Mini Meet West we were given a card for IMM2009at Cofton Park, Longbridge, Birmingham on August 7-9. They said that 4000 Minis were expected to come!!http://www.imm2009.co.uk
I hear that as well from someone who went to the German Let’s MINI event last weekend.
Seems Silverstone is confirmed.
Perfect! I am looking forward to MINI UNITED next year. See you all at Silverstone!
Can we expect a special edition MINI for the 50th? Seems likely, given BMW’s plethora of special editions for the MINI….

Yes. We’ve either reported on that here or on Whiteroofradio – I can’t remember which.

Jon, they’ll have a 50th anniversary limited edition R60 just for you. 🙂
I wish MINIUSA would team up with Virgin Atlantic Airways to offer special airfare rates to MINI UNITED attendees coming from the US.
Hah C4 🙂

How about a 50th party in the states? Will the “East meets West” thing in Minnisota serve as the official bash?
