When the R57 goes on sale next spring it will receive an exclusive color much like the launch of the R52 convertibles in the latter half of 2004. Like the R52 the MINI convertible will get two new colors to call its own; one metallic and one a non-metallic. The non-metallic addition to the line-up will be called Interchange Yellow.
It’s a non-metallic yellow/green that’s almost the same color as a hi-liter pen but not quite so luminous. Also something to note, it’s the same color that will be used on the upcoming electric MINI’s mirror caps and roof.
Along with this new yellow, the R57 will also mark the return of Space Blue as an exclusive color for the convertible.
Finally to round-out the new colors choices, the R57 will get an optional brown canvass top to go with Hot Chocolate (currently an exclusive color on the Clubman).
I’ve heard a number of people complain that the Mellow Yellow isn’t bright enough. Hopefully hi-liter…I mean “Interchange yellow” will be bright enough.
MINI has never gotten the yellow paintwork right in my opinion. Liquid Yellow was too pale and Mellow Yellow makes the car look like a big rolling Mango.
So does this mean that Hot Chocolate won’t remain exclusive to the Clubman for much longer? It’s a great color and it would have been nice if it remained ‘limited’. Too bad…
Does this mean MINI is putting the exuberant back in their color scheme? God I hope so. My 2003 is getting on in years, but I can’t bring myself to buy in ‘chalky blue.’
Could we get a MINI in the lime green color of my old ’67 Cougar?
(I remember a few years ago, while driving across the country with my daughters, searching in vain for just that right color green…. alas, probably gone forever!)
Why is this in “effeciency” as well as “R57”? Also remember that there are a limeted number of guns in the factory. I’m all for all colors on all models… It’s not like you need a special color to know it’s a rag top!

I think R52 Cabrio production ended June 30th, 2008.

Incorrect. It is still in production today, but production will cease in, on, or at the end of week 30.
Did a factory tour on Saturday and watched some of the last R52’s roll off the line. They finished over the weekend.Line to be reset over this week and R57 will start again shortly, Bring on the new blood
Not sure why a new color is needed, the fact it’s a top-down is enough for me…
I’ve heard the outgoing R52 will go out with a bang, too, featuring an all-black special edition.
I must see this color. It sounds nice.
When I first saw the headline, the thought that sprung to mind was how dark of a metallic grey would it be? 😉
Hooray for color!
Someday I’ll take the plunge and pack away a new Cabrio.
I thought that the R56 was supposed to be getting a new black to replace the Astro color? Haven’t heard any more about this.
Surely the “outgoing R52” has gone already?

Very exciting — though a part of me was also hoping for a return of the HO.

I think it was high time to add a “real orange” to the line-up (no more rusted or charred barf).Return of “space blue”……..wow?

hey here’s a novelty color-
flat black
heck, I’ve never even seen white silver convertible.
I wonder if my dealer will let me bring a hiliter and use it on a pepper white to see what the new color is like.

Ugh! Why would you want a non-gloss black on a MINI? That would be even more difficult to care for than Jet Black. I also think it would look hideous.

^ but it is true that most, if not all, dealers only took new orders through the end of June.
I was hoping they would bring back the Jet Black! I have 2005 MCSC Jet Black and love it. If I ever buy a new one, it has to be Jet Black or no deal!
highlighter yellow? sounds like the lightning yellow on first year mazda rx-8. i like it
Jet black is what I meant (not flat black).
