This past Saturday at MTTS Chicago Todd got the chance to interview Edgar from Bosch about the MINI Cooper Diesel they have in the US for testing.
It’s a great conversation about a car we don’t yet get but everyone (it would appear) wants. Hopefully they will have it in LA for us to check out during MTTS.

Edgar is a nice guy but doesn’t know squat about diesels in the US. While it’s nice to hear about diesels here, this is close to a content free interview….
Matt
Why does MINI make a diesel hybrid. Probably 100 mpg. Could easily be done by mini. Lets see it for 2010. I would buy it in an instant.
I meant why doesn’t
Well this kinda sucks because as much as I love my current Cooper, if the Cooper D was offered here I’d definitely consider it.
When pigs fly!!!
I’ve said it many times before and I will say it again. I would buy a MCD in a heartbeat! As much as I love my MCS, I love to travel and at even 55ish MPG average, I can afford to go on trips more often and further away from the hectic corporate prison that I’ve been sentenced to! 🙂
i totally saw this car when i was putzing around ypsilanti (michigan) like 2 weeks ago!
Thanks for the interview and great job, Todd. It was definitely interesting to hear Edgar mention that in mixed driving he’s getting about 55 MPG! In my R53 MCSa in mixed driving, I was getting about 21 MPG. So, that’s a huge step up and if the MCD became available in the US today, I would be placing an order with MINI sales immediately and would be looking forward to putting my R53 on the market once the car arrived.
