The MINI Space Box is a custom Airstream trailer than showcases a custom made interior by Copenhagen’s Republic of Fritz Hansen. Look for the Space Box to show up at events, exhibitions, and design fairs around the world. It will make its debut at the Salone del Mobile and the INTERNI DESIGN ENERGIES exhibition in Milan, Italy (April 21-30 2009).

What’s the tow rating on a MINI?

I like the fact that the MINI in the images doesn’t even have a towbar…

I seem to remember 200 lb maximum tongue weight, 1400 lb maximum towing capacity.

Here’s some more info about the project direct from Airstream UK
http://www.airstreameurope.co.uk/buzz.html

Ok so it looks nifty, but its not like a MINI Clubman or even Crossman will be towing one of those, so don’t your hopes up. Its a 22ft trailer. A Clubman is 12.91ft. A 22ft Euro Airstream still weighs 3000-3800lbs. That’s BMW X5 towing territory, and you’ll still need trailer brakes. Even if its light as a feather, MINIs aren’t designed to tow. Note how its not even attached in the pics.

So Nifty idea, but not anything a MINI driver can use. Makes me ask, “Why??”

The smallest production Airstream I can find, is way over the MINI towing max tongue and capacity weights, at 300 lb tongue, and 2,800 lbs. unloaded weight. Even the Airsteam Basecam, which is pretty much just a fancy toy-haule/teardrop trailer is 350/1965. This is a (space) box of nothing – all show/no go..

Pardon me, but on a scale of 1 to dumb this is retarded… a comcept trailer that we can’t even tow? So much for my dream of this being the speedster I guess… =(

So they have a concept that points out the engineering shortfalls of the product it is paired with? Brilliant confidence!

Looks like they should be introducing this on April 1st.

I actually like the surfboard on the Clubman, nice shark profile, maybe Mini should sell one ;)

Seems like a fairly random pairing, guess both could be looked at like lifestyle products. Not sure if this does much to show the bonuses of the Mini.

Maybe the MINI SUV could tow it.

wait, this is a joke right? It isn’t even April yet.

What wheels are we looking at on that Mini? Don’t recognize them as any factory style.

Maybe that’s because the trailer has the same wheels ;>)

I like it but I don’t think I would pull it with a MINI. I pull my “small” airstream with my MINI and that is just right. See my gallery on NAM if you are interested. (Zyamfier) The cross wind alone on that behind the MINI would be impossible.

A little bit of me died when I saw this.

Should have been a box of hair!

Weird, nothing in that picture bothers me… not the Clubman without tow bar… not that the surfboard on the Clubman roof isn’t mounted in a visible way… not the Surfer surfing in daylight while it is almost dark on the big picture… not to talk him hovering above all that.

Hmmm, why might that be ? BECAUSE IT IS A CONCEPT MORONS !!!

I like the idea but in reality the Clubman would need a V8 to be able to barely pull the thing out.

Volker, please refrain from insulting others. We simply don’t get your marvelous intellectual capacity…

Can’t wait to see a coach bus made by MINI and a semi.

Acapulco Gold anyone?

The rest of the world pulls caravans just fine with 4 cyl. and 1.6 to 2 litre.

Nice Design!

This is precisely why we need a beefed up MINI SUV… to tow one of these! And, a diesel engine wouldn’t hurt, in the torque dept., to get the wheels turning.
