Simon sent us this via the MF Inbox, concerning the internet radio feature.
Sharp eyed MF reader Jas brought this one to our attention. The original video is after the jump.
>Look at this video, around the 0.28 second mark, it shows a yellow convertible, with a new NAV user interface? I have only ever seen a different looking one, like a list.
We had a feeling the nav system was going to be updated and would guess that these changes should start showing up in the 2010 model year cars. We will have full details when they are available.

For what I know the previous system was a VDO Siemens unit. The new one is build by Harman Becker (also supplier of the latest BMW flagship iDrive systems). That said I doubt a software update won’t be possible.

Speaking of updates, I just took delivery of an 09 Cooper S and it came standard with USB and bluetooth for my iPhone. On my 07 this was a cost option!

Unfortunately it also came standard with hill assist which I don’t like, and BMW seems to have dropped the tap once for 3 indicator blinks…which I did actually like! Oh well hehe

New nav looked nice. I would love to see what the other screens look like. I am happy with the Mini Nav, but there is definately room for improvement.

That looks slick. The vertical list is very counter-intuitive since the easiest thing to do with the joystick is spin it. It also fits better with most of the current menus which are also, spin to go up/down.

@r.burns thank you so much for taking the time to mention this. I checked the manual and you’re indeed right! I have changed the settings so the indicators now blink 3 times on a soft push. Soooo handy! Now I wonder if I can find a way to turn off hill assist…

@Dylan Bland: USB/Bluetooth is not standard. Actually it’s pretty expensive ($500). If you didn’t order it specifically, it is also part of the Convenience package. Probably the only way to turn off hill assist is to turn off DSC.

@rtw I live in New Zealand and it’s definitely standard here for 09. I spec’d my car myself and didn’t select this option. I did however spec the “chili pack” which includes 17 inch wheels, xenons, half leather seats, interior lights package etc – perhaps the USB/Bluetooth thing is part of that now at no extra cost. Either way, I was very pleasantly surprised – love it.

Certainly hoping that this system is like the recently updated BMW system. The navigation system in my 2009 R56 is average at best. I love the integration of the phone and ipod functions, but the navigation function itself is not that great. The updated BMW navigation is great, so hopefully this update includes some of those features!

I’ve just noticed another difference between the 07 and the 09: the speedo goes up to 260km/hour instead of 240. I believe in the past this was reserved for the JCW

Will the update possibly be available as a firmware update for the existing R56 Navigation System?

LOL Jon E beat me to it… I just -knew- that would be the first (and most important) question!

Knowing MINI, likely not. Probably the hardware is different turning any hopes of a simple firmware reflash into dust…..

This looks really cool! I like it better than the previous lists for the options.

No it is a setting ! go to your options…

Hill assist is coupled with DSC….

Any word whether this is a hard drive based system? If it isn’t, are there any plans to offer one in with the refresh?
