MINI USA’s rolling festival of all things MINI is back for 2010. After sitting on lots of details over the past few months we can finally report what we know.
After much deliberation MINI USA has decided to combine the best parts of the last two events and combine them. The event will start with a handful of events around the country in major cities. From this point there will be a rally (aka a cross-country road trip similar to MTTS ’06) from the starting point to a central location. What we can finally confirm that that central location will be Denver Colorado. Once there attendees will be treated to a two day festival including many of the activities we’ve seen at both MTTS and MINI United over the years. We expect this to culminate in a headlining concert on the last night. This final festival will take place on August 6th through the 8th.
We’re still getting details on the starting points and their associated dates but rest assured you’ll hear it all here first.
And one more thing, expect to see something not seen on US streets before. Both on the rally routes and at the event.
As you would expect MotoringFile and White Roof Radio will also be providing _exclusive_ daily coverage of the event starting with the kick off parties and ending in Denver. So, even if you can’t make it, we’ll have you covered.
If you have attended MTTS in the past you already know how cool it is. This years is shaping up to be the best yet.
Stay tuned to MotoringFile and White Roof Radio for updates as they happen.

Minis In The Mountains is Aug 12-15. Just stick around in Denver and party with the MITMS group.

Time to book my vacation…

I hope MINI USA is thinking ahead enough to collaborate their planning with MINI5280–or at least keep them informed of their plans.

Could this potentially bring more folks to MITM? Maybe, but on the other hand there might be out-of-area folks who can only afford to “head to the mountains” for a finite period of time. That could take away from potential MITM attendance which would be a shame. Even local Colorado folk might not be able to disappear into a MINI-world for two consecutive weekends.

I fear that this is a brand new complication for MINI5280…

Wow… 2000 miles away from home. Oh well, maybe 2012 will be a more central location, this one just seems more appropriate for those on the west coast. I wonder what the

Its a shame that it will end up competing with MITM for people’s vacation time. I think it shows how out of touch with the MINI community MINI USA is. Maybe they can make the host hotel $300 a night again like the one for MTTS Miami.

@Gary – They have talked with the MITM group and they are very excited to have this event both close to home and close to their event. I would almost bet that more than a few owners will stick around to attend. I’m thinking about doing the same thing myself.

@Andrew – Sure the extreme corners are the furthest away. Some, like yourself, more extreme than others. I think they are planning a couple of rally points from the east coast, we just don’t know where yet. And, of course, there is the miles.

Can’t make everyone happy every time. In 2008 they did quite a lot on the east coast, including having an event in Boston. In 2007, almost everyone that wasn’t near the rally route was excluded, including myself.

The problem is that the US is huge. They know they can’t make everyone happy every time. I think the plan for this year is a fantastic comprise.

Hopefully PhillyMINI made enough of an impression in ’08 for them to start at or pass thru Philly…

Nice to hear they’re already working with Joe, Rick, Jonathan, and the gang. I hope the symbiosis materializes and it becomes a good thing for all.

Well even though I am on a self observed holdup on commenting I can resist this one!

Fantastic idea and thing this will be hands down the best one yet! I will be looking hard at this and would surely look at the MTTM event too since its my favorite one and has the best driving roads this side of the Dragon.

Just a point of personal pride, I called it

I voted for option 3, but like all three options.

What I would like to see is four smaller events, then a community drive from those to a central location for a community wide big bang. If they did that maybe even start with more than four initial events, I could see actually 6, two on either coast and two in the middle of the country.

The initial meeting would draw in a lot of people that might not be able/willing to leave a region, the drive of the original MTTS I believe is a part of any future MTTS event.

I’m 30 miles from Denver, but will have to choose between the two.

So cool! I can’t wait to hear more details to see if I can be a part of it :D

Fantastic! I have just one request to make this a perfect event…..please plan the motoring routes away from construction. The drive out of Chicago at MTTS08 was not fun.

For the record, I warned them of that 6 months prior to the event :)

YAY! I hope I’ll be able 2 attend this one, since I missed the last two! I’m on the east coast, so if there’s a run anywhere along there, I’m in!

For the record, I warned them of that 6 months prior to the event :)

For the record I took Gabe’s advice and arrived at Road America 3 hours before everyone else. : )

Fantastic news and we hope to bring GP 0102 to the gathering. We really enjoyed the first MTTS when we took delivery of the GP in Monterey and did the rally from there to Texas.

I’m going

Can’t wait to hear more about this!

…man, this is a tough one for Me.

Do I get a MINI that’s nice;but, really not what I want to take to MTTS 2010…

Or do I wait to get what I want;yet, miss MTTS2010(for the 3rd time)?! (Using John Stewart’s English accent, while shaking my fist mockingly to the sky): “Damn’ you MTTS…DAMN’ YOOOOOOOU!!!!!!”)

So glad MINI is keeping this going. I just hope the southeast staring point is not as extreme in the corner as Miami this time!

LOL @ Shawn w/his John Stewart (I love him, BTW) impression! U could always rent a MINI for the event, come home and then get what u want.

Vacation request goes in tomorrow. Will have the “Dragon Wagon” in tow so those of you who have not seen it in the flesh (DB) will get a chance. See everyone in Denver. -Zyamfier

I’m glad and excited to hear that Colorado will be a major part of MTTS 2010. In 2006, a few of us headed over 400 miles south to catch only one leg of the first MTTS (Albuquerque, NM to Amarillo, TX). It was lots of fun then and now we’re looking forward to MTTS right in our backyard, enjoying Colorado motoring, as many MINI5280.org members have since its founding in 2002. Welcome!

We’ll be there! After seeing how far everyone drove to get to MINI United last year (the MINI People caravan from Moscow comes to mind) and those classic owners who are part of the North American Classic Mini Brigade (a 5,000 mile trip in a classic) no excuse not to try- it’s only a measly 1000 miles- the question is “Which Mini?”

OK; I calculated it (roughly) from my door to central Denver, which equates to 3416 miles, round trip. That does NOT include meeting points/stops in between on the way there. Whew!

Let’s go!

“And one more thing, expect to see something not seen on US streets before. Both on the rally routes and at the event.”

My hope
We see the coupe and roadster by August those two should be something just over the horizon.

It looks like we will make it and then do MITM too.

Our only question: Which MINI should we bring?

We are in here at MINI of Fairfield County. Looking for big participation/representation hopefully! MINIBro is ready to go!

As one of the MINI5280 members responsible for planning this year’s MINIs In The Mountains I can say two things: 1) MINI has kept us in the loop on their event plans during the past couple of months and 2) We could not be more excited or happier to have MTTS in Denver 3 days before our event. I think there will be great synergies and give people more reason to attend both events. Spending 3 days in Denver before motoring the 80 miles up to MITM and enjoying 3 more days of twisty mountain roads will be a huge draw.
We have the lodging already set-up with Winter Park Resorts and will soon be opening our event registration. Check us out at http://www.MinisInTheMountains.com and plan on spending August 12 – 15 with us!

Which Track, Bandimere, Colorado National Speedway?

Its a drive for me. This makes it easy for the west coast people, not so much for the east coast.

Cant wait to see the cities they pick before the central location. I heard this through the grapevine, but I thought more near Kansas or Texas for central location.

Very cool! I can’t wait to see the details. I did 2006 but missed 2008 but I heard it was ok at best.

Well, nuts…That’s the same weekend as my 30th high school reunion. My son live years Denver so I would have gone too…

High school reunion is only 9 hrs away..so tempting…I repeat, nuts!

LOL, so I gather Florida got the shaft again?

@C4 – It was in Miami last time. Of course if you are in Northwest Florida that is like another state away!

We here in Colorado are looking forward to seeing everyone.

Where do I register my MINI?
