MINI USA is continuing to hype the attempted match-up with Porsche on June 21st at Road Atlanta. The latest effort is the idea of creating a limited edition set to commemorate the race. We’re told that MINI has yet to decide if they will have the collectors set and bringing them to market would likely depend on the race actually happening. But suffice to say the handful of pre-production sets already produced will be highly sought after if no more are made.
What do you think? Regardless of whether or not the race is run, would you be interested the set you see above?

I want a set! This is just too cool! I would also like to see Jim’s shirts be made available right along with the toys.

I’ve been wondering why MINI USA was making such a deal out of this Porsche challenge – now I see why, it’s all in the marketing ;)

Oh, and they need to fix the packaging to reflect the correct performance levels of both vehicles. MINI Cooper S Hardtop vs. 911 (whatever) just to make it correct.

I want!

DOES WANT! I’ve been dying to have a match box version of my car! Its my car!!! (minus the wheels, I have the crown spokes)
I want that so badly now! shakes fist at Gabe

It looks as though the wheels on the card are Web Spokes and the wheels on the model are S Winders.

I’d love to have a set of these. All of my other matchbook sized models are of the R53.

Moar!!!!!

Where can you buy this set?

Just saw one of the Audi commercials referring to BMW as the “loser” in the sport sedan market. I wonder if the MINI vs. Porsche ad campaign is some kind of subtle passive/aggressive way of BMW getting back at the Porsche/Audi group.

Whatever the reasons, i love the ad campaign — keep it up MINI!

Arrrrrre youuuuuu ready to rumble? Ooooh Yeah.

Put me on the list!!

Makes a good fantasy toy, just like a childs hummer with missiles and rockets.

I say to Brad Davis, Jim and MINI in general let me have a couple of my classic Mini Cooper S friends setup a autocross build specifically for the classic Mini and you can bring your jcw MINI and lets see who owns who….

Ha! I’d snag a set if I could!

Clever promotion. Humor similar to “Cooper and Hutch” or whatever that was called back in ’07.

The funny thing is that there are ignorant types out there who won’t realize it’s a gag and will acually be impressed that Minis are “that” fast.

Either way it’s a win for Mini.

The T-shirts MINI NA president was wearing in the “throwdown” videos need to be made available too please!

I’ll take 2 sets, at a MINImum.

How about a poster of the Challenge ? Use the the graphics from the model cars’ blister pack. 24 x 36. And I agree on the T-Shirts. They’re Classic!

A poster would be fantastic!

MM, I think you are referring to “Hammer and Coop”.

Ian Cull, yes, this is 110% marketing and there is nothing wrong with that. This campaign gets the blood flowing.

MUST HAVE FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!

I Love it

I want one!!! Actually two. One package to collect and another to open and put on my mantle!!!

Check out the LE MINIvsPORSCHE set!

Wish they would have just done the graphics as a poster, suitable for framing!
