A little birdie informed us this early this morning and now MINI United official Facebook site has confirmed it. MINI United will not be taking place this summer as originally planned. Instead MINI is planning on moving the event to the summer of 2012. The location will remain France but no details have been given.
I think I speak for all MF readers everywhere in saying… bummer.

Not a bummer. More like PANTS, as in “Cr@p in the…” MU09 was truly an epoc in my MINI Motoring experience, however, in the casual manner by which MINI has dumped MU11 is abysmal in the least. And to then re-schedule MU12 >during< the Summer Olympics, which is in LONDON, is pure insanity. As posted on FB, MU is just another means to get my $$$ and I recognize that. However, whilst doing so, I was in a “family” that enjoyed the zaniness of the car and the group. Where does that leave BMW MINI now? They’ve certainly managed to put the “fun” in dysfunctional.

Cheers…

Wonder how that will work out as MTTS is more or less on the book for 2012 isn’t it (if they go forward with it). I wonder if this means we will not see a MTTS until 2013.

Jon, excellent point as I didn’t even think of that. Wondering what kind of kabuki dance MINIUSA and BMW MINI are going through now. More importantly, when are they gonna come up with some answers?

Cheers!!

MINI -You have to be kidding! I have already booked and paid my airline tickets, hotels, and rental Mini. This is going to cost me thousands of dollars! Have a ball in 2012 (: I will not be coming back to MU ever!

This SUCKS and I for one will never return to MTTS or MINI United.

Great PR move MINI!

Where’s the “dis-like” button on this article?

Where’s the “dis-like†button on this article?

Hmmm – shouldn’t we be asking you that, Gabe? :-P

This does suck. Ridiculously stupid is more like it. Screwing up the entire MU/MTTS alternating schedule is tremendously disruptive to folks that want to (or already have) planned ahead. Have they even given a reason?

Where’s the “dis-like†button on this article?

Love it Gabe, the comment of the year so far for me lol

You are all looking at is wrong, except you Norman Nelson, this means that the production Coupé can be part of the party!

Having only attended MINI Takes The States events I must say that these events need to be re-booted anyway. Same thing over and over in the same cities is all good for new MINI family members but how about us who 1012 would be the 4th Mini Takes The States? I say put them on hold until you can produce a GREAT event!

The production Coupe was to be part of MU this year.

MINI United is very very different than MTTS and was in no need to be rebooted based on attendance and general success.

I have to disagree B-, I think MINIUSA has done a great job with MTTS. I think they did a great job last year to reach out to the MINI community. Rather sad as it means there really wont be much of a opportunity to see the Coupe in real person before it goes on sale.

Stinks for the people that already have things booked. I hope MTTS 2012 is still on. Hope to be in chicago for MTTS 2012. I guess MU 2012 will be in summer and MTTS 2012 will be in late summer , this is going to be a busy year for the organizers.

How frustrating, so many people over here have stuff booked and also holiday either side of the event, a bit childish I think!

On a more positive note, it gives them another 12 months to make this the biggest and best MU to date :)

All the more annoying that I was thinking about coming over to the USA for MTTS next year…!

Maybe this has something to do with budget costs – either they haven’t got the budget or it’s being used elsewhere – now isn’t that exciting?

Damn, I had it all planned to go and then visit my daughter in Holland after and know I folks who set their honeymoon around MU.

I’m going to be brave here…

While I agree it sucks that MU has been cancelled – I think some of the reaction is overblown. (Keyword there SOME).

Those of you that have already made plans and reservations – face it – you took a risk. You made plans to attend an event without a confirmed location. The South of France is a large area, and there was no confirmation that where MINI would have held the event was even going to be where you were planning on going… Yes it was probably cheaper to book those reservations sooner rather than later – but you took a risk based on rumors.

And for those of you that have already made reservations – what’s stopping you from enjoying a holiday in Europe? So MU isn’t happening and lots of MINI folks aren’t going to be in the area – there’s still LOTS to do in the region. Take your vacation as planned – but use it as an opportunity to expand your horizons, think of all that you now will have the time to see and do since you won’t be hanging at the track for the whole time.

So the big MINI party is cancelled – now you can see more of the region than just the road between your hotel and the track! Still want to hang out with MINI folks – reach out to the clubs in the region and let them know you’ll be visiting – I bet they’ll welcome you with open arms and show you parts of the region most tourists don’t see.
