While the i8 is undoubtedly the sexier of the two, the i3 that is the big news here. And that’s why what you see above is so big. Our friends at Kilometer have the very first photos of the i3 in the wild testing and showing off the basic shape of the car. 100% electric, the three door hatch is tall and wide with a very high front end and beltline. You can see the entire series of photos over at Kilometer.

Ive seen the BMW Prototype wrap pattern so much from the MINI WRC Car that I’ want it on my next car!

I have a feeling the i8 is a stunt to generate excitement. That looks like the concept car with token disguise wrap on it to me. They are not trying to hide anything, rather it looks as if they’ve gone to great trouble to ensure you do see some of the key design points of the concept “through” the disguise.

the front end feels Scion/Toyotaish to me, which worries me.

Will these wear the traditional BMW front grill?

This is really exciting! This would appear to mean that they are significantly closer to an actual production i3 than expected.

Isn’t that basically the definition of a halo model? Almost every manufacturer has had one at some point.

lavardera, I doubt they will, since they are electric. I too think it looks exactly like a Scion, which means it looks awful.

This may be the goofiest looking thing I have seen lately. BMW? Come on!

Why is it so ugly? Not the pattern but the outlined shape…

What ever happened to the wedge shape cars that were supposed to be slippery than an eel, and had an ultra-low wind resistance drag factor? Are we going back to a Ford Model T shape car?

I suppose you could say it’s more boring than ugly.

They also added those faux turn-lights on the side mirrors which BMW never does.

Those are real. Look for more of them from BMW and MINI thanks to some new EU regulations on height for lighting.

They got 5 lugs, I hope bmw part-shares that with the next gen mini for some “cost cutting”

Those are skinny borbet 5 lugs from BMW hub. The rears look bigger then the front, but it might just be the photo. Almost look like the BMW Bike R series rims.

The rear looks like the current Countryman from the b pillar to the d pillar. With the reverse cap and belt-line hump.

Very reminiscent of the lines of the PT Cruiser. Nice.

This screams Scion.

Am I the only one who cant find the i8? I see the i3

the i8 is here:

First the Rocketman and now this; skinny tires are making a comeback! MPG leverage, function over form.
