We’re live at the track with the MINI Coupe JCW today in Austria. Look for commentary and insight on the car throughout the day via Twitter and right here on MF.

Whats your feelings about the usability of the “trunk”. Looks like its actually pretty decent for a small car. Are you going to be able to grab any video.

Gabe at the end of the day would be interesting to know you comparison and contrast between the 1M and the R58. What suspension do they have in the cars?

I hope I’m right, the headroom for 6’+ looks adequate and the trunk space is ‘practical’ or better. Not enough for the dog kennel, but plenty ‘o room for groceries or luggage I’d guess. Two place and practical is not a compromise. That’s well thought out.

I’m 6’2″ And i had at least 4-5 inches of headroom. MII designers carved outquite a bit of space in the headliner on both the driver and passenger sides.

At 245 pounds heavier than I was expecting, this car has become a lot less interesting to me. Let’s say it is a better handler than a stock hardtop: I’ve got to think that I could buy a hardtop and upgrade the suspension for less money than the stock Coupe. That means I’d basically buying the Coupe for its sportier style. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I’d save my money for a next-gen hardtop instead.

It does look great though… much sportier than the R56 hatch. A spiritual successor to the mk2 Honda CRX, that’s how I think of this car (more so than Honda’s botched CRZ, in fact!). In fact, just like the CRX, you can have regular (Cooper) and Si (S, JCW) flavours. Looked at this way, to me this car is the best MINI to come out since the R53 went away.

Cool!

Is that Eclipse Grey or another shade specially for that model?

Nice…. JCW’s the shit!

Have fun!

If the JCW aero kit is standard on all 2012 JCW’s will that grille surround come in silver or black like it’s supposed to?

Silver.

Can I order the black surround to replace it?

Yes the JCW black grill will fit.

VIDEO?

inside pics not allowed ?

No they are not. The interior is still pre-productio rough.

get that mutha sideways!

I did and you can. It’s the most oversteer-y MINI to date. Incredible how it
rotates.

Looks as good as expected, how does the proportions of the production model feel hands on. Whats the sight lines out the side and back like?

Biggest trunk of any MINI to date – 280 liters versus 160 for the R56.

More on the interior Gabe! Is there a bulkhead, or it the hatch area open/available from the seats? More importantly, how’s she drive?

Looks very nice, I would love one but just the two seats is a non starter even if i use the back seats once or twice a month.

Does it come with dash rattles, The petrol S and & Works Cold start engine knocking or do you pay extra.

How is the seating for a 6’7″ guy?

I don’t suppose you wore a helmet at any point, did you?

Any indication as to how the prices of coupe models will compare with their hardtop cousins?

more than hardtop and less than the convertible

“commentary and insight on the car throughout the day” – that was less than expected!

I look forward to reading MF’s thoughts about how it drives. Autoweek wasn’t too excited about their brief drive:

Looks like they missed a corner and rolled down a hill. Good thing the cage was installed!
