First show after White Roof Radio live and it’s a big one! News from MotoringFile like we like to do, which is mostly us talking about the new hotness, also known as the MINI Roadster. As you can already guess, we all like it.
Not only that, but we also spend some time talking about db’s time with the MF Countryman. And the overall state of tech in automobiles. And lifting a Countryman. Make sure you listen to the whole thing.

Think you guys sounded a bit defensive when DB was stating his view about the R60. Think he had a great point. I have driven a R60 and yes its decent but agree there is a much wider gulf between the feel of a R56 and a R60 and the X series and base series. So far every R60 I have seen on the road is just like 99% of all MINIs I see on the road, they have a single person in them. To each their own but still no love for the R60 personally.

You’re trying to make two points here. The first regarding BMW cars vs crossovers. Apples to oranges IMO as the normal BMW sedan is much more conservative in the way it drives and in-turn is closer to what a crossover would naturally feel like. There’s also much less of a gulf between the sizes of these cars (as mentioned in the show).

Secondly you’re projecting your concerns about society and the use of larger vehicles by people who don’t need them. I agree but that’s a very different show. I was focused on the R60. We can talk about that next week!

Just felt like DB’s view got overwhelmed somewhat its all good though Gabe. Part of what I like about the show are the personalities you all bring to the table. May not always agree with you guys but still fun.

I do give props to R60 driver for at least not buying the typical 5k lbs SUV that I hate outright. lol

General question: How come we are seeing camoed prototypes of the new 2014 M3 sedan at the Ring but nobody has spotted a 2013 third gen MINI hatch tester anywhere? It’s supposed to be unveiled at Mini United next summer.

Maybe a last minute redesign after realizing that yet another evolutionary design won’t do and they will blow our minds by doing something outside of the box.

BMW life cycle is 7 years. As for the MINI not testing yet…. they can test more in the new test BMW facility in Munich than they could in the past. Testing out doors is not as necessary any more. With future cars this will become more and more true.

Also the next gen MINI and the proposed FWD BMW will share much of the same bits so it may being tested as a disguised BMW.

Could be that the timeline has been pushed

Still more? The R56 is already running one year longer than the normal 5 year BMW model cycle.
