MINI Plant Oxford Celebrates 100 Years of Building Cars
MINI Plant Oxford celebrates 100 years of car-making this March, against a background of rising production, increased investment and continuing expansion. Today, Plant Oxford employs 3700 associates who manufacture up to 900 MINIs every day, and has contributed over 2.25 million MINIs to the tally of over 11.65 million cars that the factory has produced since 1913.

Apparently, cars from this plant run in my family: My mom and her brother, and their parents before them, all had/have cars from this plant, including two Morris Minors that are still in the family. And now, both I and my cousin have Clubmans from Oxford as well!

One fairly notable addition to the list of cars produced at MINI Plant Oxford – the MG RV8, which brought MG back, in a small way, to producing sports cars. It was produced in a small facility on the grounds of the Oxford plant, and really hand built. For MGB fans, it was probably the best of the MGBs, with Rover 3.5 V8 power from the factory. Majority of them were sold in Japan, with quite a few now coming back to England. The RV8 preceded the MG-F in production.

A Morris Minor (aka “Moggy”) Traveller was a favorite of my family when I was a nipper. There are still a number of these on British roads. We also had a couple of original Mini’s.

A wonderful trip down memory lane! :-)

2002 MC, 2004 MCS, 2005 MCS and 2008 Clubman S all produced in Oxford.
