We’ve detailed the F56 for years here at MF. And through some great sources and a bit of luck we’ve uncovered almost all about the next generation MINI (if you need a refresher or a first course, check out the F56 section).
Now we want to hear what you’re most excited about. What the one feature or change that you’re looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comment section below.

Hands down…the new power train.

ALL4 on JCW. ;D

+1

The availability of All4 in spite of the fact that I would never buy it.

The thing I’m most interested in is JCW. I really look forward to finding out what are MINI’s plans for the brand. If what MF and WRR have said over the past couple of years about the future of JCW holds true, we are in for quite exciting times, especially for MINI enthusiasts. A JWC brand for MINI similar to what M is for BMW only bods well.

A. Seeing it in person
B. Seeing the new center speedo replacement and LED lighting around it. Really hoping I can end up liking what they have done. As a tech guy, its intriguing even though I don’t like getting rid of the speedo.

C. Its new exhaust sound!

The bitching on this here forum … ;)

Amen to that!

This seems like a good place to park my bitching: I want an electric 2-seater MINI. Won’t happen, but I complain just to hear my own voice.

You want an electric MINI? Why haven’t you ever mentioned that before?

Ha! Yeah, I need to be more vocal. :)

Bout right. The F56 is pure unfiltered ugly on four wheels.

The looks.

…so that I can feel better about my decision to get an R56, which will become an instant classic.

You’re forgetting the R53!

The 3-cyl Cooper, but only if the front end looks similar to the concept above and not the “gotcha” spy shots.

That it drives like a MINI. Such I’m very excited about the improvements that come with a modern platform: Hopefully lighter, more efficient, more cool tech and safety tech. But above all it has to be dynamic, it has to feel like a MINI. It has to have feeling. It has to drive exceptionally; better than the R53 and R56 before it.

I don’t think any future MINI will have the organic feel that any R50, R52, or R53 has. The feel of those cars like Michael Jordan of NBA fame are most likely never to be repeated again.

To have a 2.0 4 cyl that will be able to make a 1000+hp like those Honda’s do

Though I know it will never happen, I’m looking forward to the end of the damn runflat tires. The jouncy ride and inability to repair is a killer for me. $1000 for tire protection plan or hedge your bets and hope you don’t need to replace more than 3 (the break-even point). Just this summer alone, our E90 and F56 both required a tire replacement.

You own an F56?

Or just do what a lot of us do – sell the run flats immediately and use the $$ to pay for non-run flats, tire plugs and emergency slime. :-)

The front-end design and the chassis are what I am waiting for. If they can freshen it without destroying the in-person proportions, that would be great. And if they can restore some of what makes the R50/53 such a hoot to drive from a steering feel and damping perspective, they’ll have a winner.

I really want to have it on my short list for my next car. I am going to ignore what BMW has done with the F3x and hope that MINI won’t disapoint…

The new drivetrain, better MPG, and the 8 or 9 speed automatic. Hopefully the front-end looks more like the drawing above and less like the spy shots.

I’d like to say diesel, but alas that won’t happen. I’ll probably buy a golf diesel.

Didn’t MotoringFile say diesel engines are actually coming?

We know MINI USA is trying to bring diesel and has talked openly about it making those efforts. We don’t have confirmation yet, but if they can make the business case for US demand, they’ll bring the SD power plant over.

So whatever the outcome of the business case is, are they just investigating the opportunity for the larger diesel engine (i.e. SD) or also for the base diesel one (i.e. D)?

Our info is that it’s just the SD.

Based on what BMW has done in the past that makes sense as they entered that segment first with 35d engine if my memory serves me well. Once we know the outcome it’d be really interesting to have a detailed post regarding MINI’s decision making process to bring, or not, diesel into the US. Although I wouldn’t get a diesel F56, I have a particular affection for the diesel MINIs as the One D was my very first car. My siblings drive it now but I remember achieving a record 580 miles on one tank. I, of course, drove like a grandma to achieve that…

I’d love to see a “clubsport” type of model. Straps for door pulls, no sunroof, almost unbearable suspension and Recaros. Not a fan of power windows or other accessories.
And most importantly, “add lightness”.

That’s become wishful thinking with MINI at this point. I think the last hardcore MINI we’ll ever see again is the GP 2. Such a shame as I really like the 1st and 2nd gen MINIs.

Looking forward to a dual clutch gearbox.

More traffic into the showroom :-)

What is MotoringFile most looking forward to?

Traffic

Looking forward to the confirmation that nothing will make me want to replace my 2009 fJCW Clubman…

A used car lot full of R56’s, R53’s and R50’s. That way I can have a MINI that a poor college student can afford!

Im far from college, but Im looking forward to finding yet another used R53 on the cheap. My 4th will be a JWC.

If the F56 were the car in the picture here is what I would be looking forward to:

The look of the car

Start/stop tech here in the states.

MINI Connected

The new power train

The above design as a roadster, coupe, clubman and convertible

Hard to pick just one thing. Like the 2 new engines for the F56 that will replace the current one. Lots of potential for that 2.0L, as well as much improved mileage with the 1.5L. That 8 speed auto is a step forward for even better efficiency, but wish it were a dual clutch trans. Hope most of the look of this ‘photo’ depiction will translate into the actual reveal later this year.

Finally, I was really hoping some of these changes for the F56 (engines, 8 speed auto, exterior headlight visuals) would come quickly for other models, but understand that will take a few years until they get their makeovers. So guess we’ll have to accept that a stronger 2L & available 8 speed auto will be in the F56, while the larger heavier Countryman & Paceman stay with the current engine & optional 6 speed auto.

Hoping they finally include a full opaque shade to the sunroof.

Seeing if they bring back the SAI and anti-dive geometry of the R53 to get honest steering feel again.

The look (the front …, dimensions) and the driving

The design (chassis, engine/gearbox, suspension)

Quality

USB standard throughout the range

It is already standard….

Reliability, quality, engines that are not plagued with catastrophic design defects, interior materials that match the sticker price affixed to the window. More powerful A/C system for those of us in the sun belt. Increase the included maintenance to match that of BMW’s (4/50 instead of 3/36). Bring back the MOJO, the stuff that made many of us fall in LOVE with MINI more than 10 years ago. Probably I am asking/expecting too much from MINI these days…

The romanticization of the R50/3 continues to be hilarious. So I guess I’m looking forward to people doing the same for the R56/5/8/9.

It’s already started.

And the brand apologists are out in full force so it seems.

Oh, man. You know me so well. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, WITCH.

As I’ve said before the R50/53 is the new E30 M3.

LED highlights, the increase in build quality and all importantly the new Engine in the JCW with 240 BHP. I will be getting another JCW but keeping my 2011 JCW as a track toy

JCW engine-chassis specifications
LED front light system
new colour combos

JCW engine-chassis
LED front lights

Diesel

heads up display also :)

AWD option for the Justa, and 50+ MPG in the base Justa.
