Among the many things that were revealed this week was the full color line-up for the 2014 MINI. While there are many changes there are quite a few colors that are carrying over for 2014.
– Pepper White
– Midnight Black
– Thunder Gray (via the GP)
– Iced Chocolate
– White Silver
– British Racing Green II
– Chili Red (with JCW Exterior Cosmetic Package only – available with March production)
The last one will likely raise some eyebrows. Yes Chili Red is still available but it’s a color that MINI will only associate with the JCW sub-brand going forward. That means you will not be able to order Chili Red without the JCW package and the JCW aero-kit. Also of interest Thunder Gray will come the masses as it moves from an exclusive GP color to one that is available across the range.
Now only those new colors.
– Volcanic Orange
– Moonwalk Gray (available with March Production)
– Blazing Red
– Deep Blue
The two that we’ve seen a lot of this week of course are Volcanic Orange and Blazing Red. As many have expressed, VO is not orange in any traditional sense. In fact by all accounts it’s basically deep yellow. Blazing Red on the other hand is all red and in fact looks fantastic to these eyes. Not something I can say about most metallic reds.

Currently all of the metallic colors have an added cost. If current policies are carried forward, you can anticipate that all of them will have a paint charge, except for Pepper White. I would consider Chili Red to have added cost, now that it requires the JCW exterior option package.

A correction to my earlier post. Volcanic Orange is also non-metallic, so probably no additional cost for that one as well as Pepper White. This is just an educated guess, since pricing is not yet announced.

Well that didn’t work. Just google mini launch at Oxford and bring up images. There are pics of the blue one. (I’m a bit technology challenged apparently.)

Which colors will only be available for the S? Since 2002, not all colors were available (option) for both Cooper and Cooper S. Will Moonwalk Gray be a color for the non S?

The thing that fascinates me most about this photograph is the MINI’s UK registration number, LGW 806G. This number was first issued in the UK in the summer of 1969. So what’s the significance? Well in the summer of 1969, the Mini production lines changed over from Mini MK 2 to Mini MK 3 production, which also included the new long nose Mini Clubman with its speedo placed in front of the driver for the first time on a Mini. The MK 3 also heralded in a new range of bright colours including Flame Red and Bronze Yellow. Pure coincidence? Not a bit of it. BMW is heavily into nostalgia with MINI, and putting a 1969 registration number on MINI 3 is yet another subtle example of its attention to detail. Don’t you just love BMW!

It’s a shame that Paramount Pictures didn’t pay the same attention to detail as BMW, because the Minis used in the film were MK 1’s which went out of production in the summer of ’67 but the blue one carried a 1969 reg. The film was made in 1969.

My apologies to Paramount Pictures. The three Minis were all issued with ‘future dated’ registration numbers to make them appear current with the release date of the film in the summer of 1969.

Iced Chocolate with black roof & mirrors & black bonnet stripes
Leather Lounge Satellite Grey seats
17″ Cosmos Spoke alloy wheels in black
MINI yours dark cottonwood interior (includes cottonwood trim & satellite grey colour line)

Chili pack (now includes auto lights & wipers, dual zone air-con and brake function on cruise control)
Run flat tyres
Electric folding mirrors
Chrome line interior
Heated front seats
Park distance control
Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi
Head-up display

so the basic Cooper comes with slats in Silver, not chrome. And chrome is part of a package. Did not realize that. Have not seen enough photos of the new Cooper yet to notice.

Perhaps the person at MINI who names the colors is orange colorblind. Volcanic Orange is clearly Yellow, and “Pure Red” was arguably orange… certainly not PURE red.

What is odd to me is there was a Volcanic Orange available on the classic Mini. Just google it and take a look at the pics. Cool metalic orange, kinda close to the spice orange we have today. That I like!

Not sure why MINI would use that name and change the color so much.

First time of any model MINI that I can’t pick a color I like. That’s the only issue I have so far with the F56. I’m missing a bright blue like Electric, Laser or Lightning blue.. Deep Blue is not a bright blue.

10 choices — 2 grays, 2 whites, and black means 1/2 the choices aren’t really colors at all. That leaves 1 each of green, blue, red, “yellow”, and brown.

Disappointed with the selection. But then, I really miss Laser Blue. And I liked Laguna Green with black. Or even Spice Orange (with Spice Orange top).

But am very glad the BRG is sticking around.

I’ll be curious to see how the Blazing Red looks in person on the F56. I really like Chili Red, but you couldn’t get that on a Countryman unless it was a genuine JCW, not just the aero kit. The CM’s and PM’s in the lot that were Blazing Red didn’t look right. Had a slight orangish tint to them.

No, not to me. I saw it at the LA Auto Show yesterday. I asked my son what color that was and he said it looked like sort of spicy mustard. That isn’t close to bright yellow.

I like the interior though. I felt right at home even though I have an R60. The interior is evolutionary. I LOVE the start button being moved to the center, and like where the ecco/sport switch is.

Not sure I can get used to no dipstick. That just doesn’t seem right.

As a new owner of a GP 2 I was hoping they would keep thunder Grey reserve for that model. Thunder Grey does not show up on the Mini configurator

Any idea what the separation in the photo means? Are the ones on the left the non-metallics and the ones on the right the metallics that cost more?

How close is the Deep Blue to Indigo Blue from the first gen?

Here’s at least one picture of it, there are pictures from the UK launch but I can’t find it.

The Deep Blue looks a lot darker on the sample at the dealer than it does in either of the pictures posted.

More Hyper Blue ! not Indgo

Is the JCW exterior cosmetic package available on the Cooper as well as the ‘S?’

You can on the 2013’s. Nothing definite on the 2014’s but not sure why they would change it.

Which colors will be an added cost?

Currently all of the metallic colors have an added cost. If current policies are carried forward, you can anticipate that all of them will have a paint charge, except for Pepper White. I would consider Chili Red to have added cost, now that it requires the JCW exterior option package.

A correction to my earlier post. Volcanic Orange is also non-metallic, so probably no additional cost for that one as well as Pepper White. This is just an educated guess, since pricing is not yet announced.

Would like to see Connaught Green make a return. Maybe as a JCW color?

Here’s another: article-2509413-197D129B00000578-749_634x377.jpg

Well that didn’t work. Just google mini launch at Oxford and bring up images. There are pics of the blue one. (I’m a bit technology challenged apparently.)

Since you helped find the picture, I’ll help upload it. Yay teamwork!

: )

Which colors will only be available for the S? Since 2002, not all colors were available (option) for both Cooper and Cooper S. Will Moonwalk Gray be a color for the non S?

in UK at least, thunder grey is cooper s only colour. moonwalk available across range

That photo would make a lovely background but it’s a shame it’s so small. :C

The thing that fascinates me most about this photograph is the MINI’s UK registration number, LGW 806G. This number was first issued in the UK in the summer of 1969. So what’s the significance? BMW is heavily into nostalgia with MINI, and putting a 1969 registration number on MINI 3 is yet another subtle example of its attention to detail. Don’t you just love BMW!

Also LGW 809G is very very close to the LGW 806G which is the reg of the blue Mini from the Italian job.

This looks really really good! …. color , car, wheels, etc …

I ordered my MINI Cooper in Iced Chocolate this morning. Pepper White & Volcanic orange are indeed the only solid colours for the Cooper.

you ordered the F56??

I did! First at my local dealership. My car is going to feature at their launch event middle of March 2014. No demo cars until then in UK

your dealership already had pricing details??

Yes. Dealer system fully updated with F56 and all pricing.

Europe and the UK have pricing announced. The US won’t have it until after the first of the year.

Congratulations, most impressive!

Wow. Congrats. post your spec list. I’d love to see what you have on it!

MINI Cooper 1.5

:-)

Nice. Cottonwood huh? Sounds like a new color.

It’s the dash trim – grey real wood – the Cooper in the offical pics has it.

Hi Marcus in E17. First that looks great, but how did you create that picture, photoshop or is there an online configurator running somewhere?

The dealer emailed me jpegs downloaded from his system configurator – there isn’t an online configurator yet

That looks like a black grill – is that an option, or is that a Mini diesel, or a Mini One?

It’s a petrol Cooper with the silver slats you get if you don’t order chrome-line exterior – just bad resolution on the pic

so the basic Cooper comes with slats in Silver, not chrome.

Yes Volcanic Orange is basically yellow. However I can assure that Blazing Red looks very red and not orange at all in person.

What is odd to me is there was a Volcanic Orange available on the classic Mini. Just google it and take a look at the pics. Cool metalic orange, kinda close to the spice orange we have today. That I like!

Glad we bought our 2013 MCS in Chili Red before the JCW tax…

10 choices — 2 grays, 2 whites, and black means 1/2 the choices aren’t really colors at all. That leaves 1 each of green, blue, red, “yellow”, and brown.

Disappointed with the selection. But then, I really miss Laser Blue. And I liked Laguna Green with black. Or even Spice Orange (with Spice Orange top).

But am very glad the BRG is sticking around.

yeah. Glad I got my Laguna Green/Black Coupe. Nothing too inspiring in this line up. I would likely go BRG II if I had to pick.

And as I’ve said before, I really miss the true yellows of years past. Volcanic Orange just isn’t yellow. Bright Yellow from this page is what I’d love to see come back. http://libraryofmotoring.info/facts/colors/

That’s exactly what VO looks like in person.

No, not to me. I saw it at the LA Auto Show yesterday. I asked my son what color that was and he said it looked like sort of spicy mustard. That isn’t close to bright yellow.

can you guys do an article on this: http://www.bimmertoday.de/?attachment_id=75992

As a new owner of a GP 2 I was hoping they would keep thunder Grey reserve for that model. Thunder Grey does not show up on the Mini configurator

As a no-GP2 Mini buyer, i was hoping Thunder Grey to be available ;)

Sad to see that thunder gray is not available to the non S mini cooper. The moonwalk gray is like silver and its awfull.

Loving Volcanic Orange, Blazing Red and Deep Blue. Excellent colors this year. I’d be really miffed if I’d bought a GP though. :-)
