We’ve always loved the JCW suspension. It’s given the MINI more control at the limit while often improving comfort on the road. However the one rub against it has always been the lack of adjustability – especially when compared with aftermarket coil-over systems. For the F56 MINI has rectified this by taking the GP’s coil-over suspension and adapting it to the F56.
The results is a system that has 10-20 mm of adjustment. In the front the kit has two stainless steel adjustable suspension legs with red springs. For the back MINI has two dampers for the rear with two adjustable spring plates finished off with red springs. The kit will debut at European dealers shortly with US deliveries beginning in 2015. Pricing for Europe is 1,330 EUR, We expect the US to see something around $2,000 for the kit.

MF Review: R56 JCW Suspension on the Road

Does it need to be removed every 20k miles and checked for proper spring tension?

Retrofit to the R56?

There are various reasons why F56 suspension components would not fit on previous generation MINIs, but the rear suspension is the first hurdle as the F56 decouples the spring from the strut in the rear. So alas, these cannot be retrofit, although there are countless coil overs available for the R56 if you want adjustability or the JCW suspension if you want a lowered ride height and better damping with an OEM warranty.

FYI it is KW V1 inox coilovers on the front, and ST coilovers on the rear

The best thing I’ve ever done to my R58 JCW was to fit the JCW suspension kit (the old one) if this kit is anything like that kit, don’t hesitate to buy it. It’s a worthy upgrade.

Fingers crossed MINI is smart enough to make this standard on the F56 JCW or at the very least part of a factory option package.

I’m new the JCW thought process – do parts in the kit appear as standard on the factory JCW cars? Thanks.

Typically not. They are meant to give Cooper S owners a chance to bridge the gap. The ICE factory model will be a ground up re-engineered car. However there’s a chance it’s base configuration won’t include shocks this aggressive.

Thank you Gabe – can’t wait for the factory car to be unveiled!

Can’t wait for it to make it’s way over to the US. Gotta love JCW.
